Acting troup
turns the table on
its beloved play
Astor Street Opry Company
presents “Shanghaied in As-
toria - Topsey Turvey!” next
weekend.
The show, directed by Jason
Hippert with Choreography
by Carleta Lewis-Allen, has
the males playing the female
roles and women playing the
men.
It’s a cross-dressing extrav-
aganza meant to lampoon the
company’s much-loved show,
“Shanghaied in Astoria.”
Admission is $10, with all
proceeds going toward build-
ing projects.
Shows are at 7 p.m. Sept. 14
and 15, with doors opening at
6:30 p.m.

made.
“OK. What is the dream?
This town has changed and
this is not a realistic assess-
ment of what we should do,”
Mayor Henry Balensifer said,
pointing to the urban renewal
master plan created a decade
ago. “We need to plot a new
path.”
The entire county is short
on housing, especially low-in-
come housing, he pointed
out. Putting that housing in
an area that’s a short stroll
to parks, the library, city ser-
vices and a struggling albeit
tiny downtown is ideal.
“That’s what urban renewal
is all about -- increasing that
livability.”
