ARLINGTON — Earl Snell Park is the
place to be Saturday, July 30, as the
Arlington Show-N-Shine gears up for its
annual car show and other family-friendly
park activities.
K’Lynn Lane said nearly 100 vehicles
are expected to enter the show, which
is presented in coordination with the
Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce.
Onsite registration runs from 9-11 a.m.,
with judging promptly at 11 a.m. The vehi-
cle registration fee is $10. Awards will be
presented in 18 divisions.
While waiting for the car show awards
ceremony, which is at 3:15 p.m., visitors
are invited to enjoy other park activities.
In addition, food and beer vendors will be
available during the event.
Plunk down two bucks to enter the
duck races. And there’s no charge for the
Hula-Hoop contest. People of all ages are
invited to swivel their hips for a chance
to win cash prizes — Hula-Hoops are
provided.
Musical entertainment features Olivia
Harms. The daughter of Western Music
Hall of Fame member Joni Harms, she
grew up on a 150-year-old farm in Canby.
Harms describes her sound as equal
parts Bakersfield, Texas and Nashville
country.
Also, a three-on-three basketball
tournament offers competition in both
junior (ages 9-13) and adult (14-plus) di-
visions. The team registration fee for the
A-Town Throw Down is $50. The contest
is sponsored by the Port of Arlington and
Sherrell Chevrolet, and participants will
receive a free event T-shirt, said organizer
Kip Krebs.
The main event tipoff is at 1 p.m. on
the basketball courts, located on the east
side of the park. The junior division start
time was still to be determined at press
time.
The two-game guarantee tourna-
ment-style event features cash prizes
in each division. Krebs said the amount
depends on how many teams register
and can range from $75-$125 for the first
place junior team and $175-$275 for the
adults.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three
teams in each division.
Krebs said teams may register at the
event, but advance registration is pre-
ferred. For entry forms or more informa-
tion about the basketball tournament,
