From Nashville to Baker City: Meet Laney Jones
Kathryn Claire and Margot
Merah open concert July 2
By Lisa Britton

BAKER CITY — Laney Jones grew up in
theater, but these days she sings her own
songs instead of reciting from scripts.
“I’ve loved music since a young age,” said
Jones, who grew up in Florida and now lives
in Nashville, Tennessee.
She especially liked musicals, and started
singing at age 10.
“I wanted to learn how to sing well,” she
said.
Her infl uences from those musical days
— George Gershwin, and Rodgers and Ham-
merstein — helped when she began more
musical pursuits in college.
“Having the background of solid melodies
and lyrics helped form what I do now,” she
said.
And what she does now is sing — she’s
coming to Baker City on Saturday, July 2, for
a concert at Churchill School, 3451 Broad-
way St.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts
at 6:30 p.m. with special guests Kathryn
Claire and Margot Merah. Jones will be
joined by Brian Dowd on drums and James
Bandini on bass.
