L
A GRANDE — Art Cen-
ter East has unveiled
“#150mmchallenge,” a pop-up
exhibit showcasing international
forged ironworks, in the Orlaske
Gallery, and a free reception with
refreshments is set for Friday,
May 27, 6-8 p.m.
Local blacksmith Peter Clark
will give an artist talk at 6 p.m.
“This might be the single
most important show of con-
temporary blacksmithing work
ever assembled,” said Clark,
whose work is featured in the ex-
hibit. “It’s an international exhibit
showing diverse and inventive
ways to work within the con-
straints of a single starting point:
one piece of steel.”
ACE is hosting 58 of the
exhibit’s 150 unique pieces by
artists from around the world.

Art Center East is displaying “150mmchallenge,” a pop-up exhibit featuring ironworks from around the world. A
reception is planned for May 27, 6-8 p.m. The show closes Saturday, May 28, at 2 p.m.
According to a press release,
“Concept originator and Hereford
(England) College of Arts lecturer
and blacksmith Ambrose Burne
explored the size-constraint
exercise as a self-imposed chal-
lenge fi rst. Thereafter, he asked
his students to create something
out of a small 150mm x 20mm
x 20mm rectangular piece of
steel. Using the power of social
media to connect, challenge,
and empower other artists —
amateur and professional — the
#150mmchallenge emerged.”
Participants were asked to
mail their #150mmchallenge
works to Hereford. Once all
240 pieces arrived, the fi rst
#150mmchallenge pop-up
exhibit, curated by Delyth Done,
was open for in-person viewing.
The #150mmchallenge exhibit
will be on its way from ACE to its
next pop-up destination after it
closes at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28.
Community members are encour-
aged to stay up to date on the
exhibit’s progress through social
media by following #150mmchal-
lenge and #herefordanvils.
ACE, 1006 Penn Ave., is
open regular hours Wednes-
day-Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and
Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Exhib-
its can also be viewed online at
