8 BEHIND THE SCENES MAY 1825, 2022 FROM THE COVER A passport to art and culture By Lisa Britton Go! Magazine B AKER CITY — Museum and cultural organizations are inviting every- one to explore local history and art with the Baker County Culture and Heritage Passport. The pocket-sized booklet contains information about eight locations around the county, and the goal is to collect a unique stamp from each place. The project is supported by a grant from the Oregon Heritage Commis- sion and the Oregon Parks and Recre- ation Department. “The beginning started for Cross- roads and the Baker Heritage Museum wanting to fi nd a better way to circulate guests between the two organizations and then with the Interpretive Center,” said Ginger Savage, executive director of Crossroads Carnegie Art Center. “In 2018 when Eastern Oregon Museum in Haines had their summer long quilt exhibit and Crossroads had a studio art quilt show we were again working to send guests to the other venue. From that came the passport — a quick simple passport with incentives to visit the cul- tural attractions in all of Baker County.” Some hours have changed since the fi rst printing, and new attractions added, so volunteers have been busy adding an extra sheet to each passport to ensure visitors have the most updated information. For instance, the National Historic Or- egon Trail Interpretive Center is closed for renovations, but an Oregon Trail Experi- ence is set up at Baker Heritage Museum. “We are excited to get people from around the region reengaged with their cul- tural attractions this summer,” Savage said.
