12 FESTIVALS MAY 1118, 2022 EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS AROUND EASTERN OREGON Hermiston Art Festival is a full day of fun Festival and spring bazaar both happen May 14 By Jennifer Colton Go! Magazine H ERMISTON — Visual arts will fi ll downtown Hermiston on Saturday, May 14, while vendors fi ll the Hermiston Community Center for the 2022 Art Festival. “It’s going to a happening place,” said Brandon Artz, Hermis- ton Park and Recreation director. “It should be a fantastic day, a re- ally fun weekend for Hermiston.” The activities start at 9 a.m. Saturday with the opening of the annual Hermiston Spring Bazaar at the Hermiston Community Center. Artz said there will be about 80 vendors from across the region at the bazaar sell- ing items from baked goods to metal art. That event lasts until 4:30 p.m. — or until items sell out. Just an hour after the bazaar opens, activities kick off on Main Street and Festival Street at the 2022 Hermiston Art Festival, which runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and fea- tures an art walk, live music and interactive competitions. Judy Pederson, president of the Hermiston Downtown Dis- trict, said festival visitors can ex- pect a variety of family-friendly art inside and outside downtown businesses. facebook.com/Hermistondowntown “We’ll have some professional artists throughout businesses, and we’ll have lots of vendors out on the festival street,” she said. “We’ll have some food, we’ll have some entertainment — it’s going to be a really fun-packed day.” During the festival, visitors can pick up a map of artist loca- tions at the information booth on Festival Street and then travel the art walk, viewing pieces from professional and student artists. All festival attendees will have the option to vote for their fa- vorite artist, and some of those pieces will be for sale. Cash prizes will be awarded — the winner of the People’s Choice Award takes home $50, and fi ve student pieces will each receive $20. The event will also include live music as well as some interac- tive elements, such as an op- portunity to show off in creating sidewalk chalk art and a LEGO building competition. “Bring the kids down because there’s going to be some things to do, look at, touch, feel and create,” Artz said. Admission is free to both the Hermiston Spring Bazaar and the Hermiston Art Festival. The Hermiston Art Festival kicks off the Hermiston Down- town District’s summer festival, and information about upcoming events will be released soon.
