13 GRAB BAG AN ASSORTMENT OF MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS APRIL 1320, 2022 Umatilla hosts first Community Camp Out By Jennifer Colton Go! Magazine U COMMUNITY CAMP OUT MATILLA — No RVs are allowed at the Umatilla Marina and RV Park campground on Friday, April 22, as the city of Umatilla hosts its fi rst Commu- nity Camp Out. Umatilla City Manager Dave Stockdale said the Marina campground is a unique part of city services because most of its users come from out of town. “We have this terrifi c com- munity asset, and the majority of the users aren’t from here, which makes sense, people travel when they camp,” he said. “This is in our backyard, so we wanted to make sure that this amenity is available to our residents at least once a year. We encourage families and friends and anyone to come on out and enjoy a night of camping.” What: An event for tent camping only When: April 22-23 Where: Umatilla Marina and RV Park Cost: Free After a registration period for only Umatilla residents, the remaining spots are now open to anyone in the area. Sites are assigned on a fi rst-come, fi rst- served basis with only one family allowed per site. “It’s a tents-only campout, so if you have an RV or a fi fth wheel or anything like that, leave those at home and bring the tent,” Stockdale said. He said there are a limited number of tents for rent. Hermiston Herald, File photo The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers owns the majority of the riverfront property along the Columbia River, including the marina, in the city of Umatilla. On April 22, families are invited to a tent-only Community Camp Out at the Umatilla Marina and RV Park. To register, go to www. umatilla-city.org/parksrec/page/ parks-recreation-happenings. During the campout, there will be a community campfi re, but Stockdale said families are welcome to bring their own food and start their own campfi res as well. Firewood and ice will be available for purchase, and a free breakfast will be served on Saturday morning. The city is planning to show “The Croods: A New Age” at dusk, and some yard games will also be available. Check-in for the April 22 campout begins at 2 p.m., and checkout is Saturday, April 23, at noon. Registration is free, and anyone can contact Umatilla City Hall or the Umatilla Marina and RV Park for more information. Looking ahead on the calen- dar, the city of Hermiston is plan- ning to bring back the Hermiston Family Campout this year. That event is scheduled for July 22, 2022, at Riverfront Park.
