Traveling exhibit honors
Mark O. Hatfield
Hatfield was ‘the most respected and
influential politician in Oregon’s history’

ENDLETON — In honor
of one of Oregon’s most
beloved political fi gures, Mark
O. Hatfi eld, the Oregon His-
torical Society has created a
traveling exhibit to spread the
knowledge of Hatfi eld’s legacy
all across Oregon.
The exhibit has now found
its way to the Heritage Station
Museum and will be available for
viewing through April 3. The mu-
seum, at 108 SW Frazer Ave., is
open Tuesday through Saturday,
10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Born in 1922, Hatfi eld had
an exceptional history of fi ght-
ing for his country and being
an advocate for change in his
home state. After serving in the
U.S. Navy during World War II, he
went on to be a member of the
Senate Appropriations Commit-
tee, state senator, secretary of
state, governor and U.S. senator.
“The Call of Public Service:
The Life and Legacy of Mark O.
Hatfi eld” includes three kiosks,
each discussing the areas he
found important during his 46-
year career. These areas include
wilderness protection, world
peace, infrastructure, health
care, equal rights and education.
“He earned the reputation as
the most respected and infl uen-
tial politician in Oregon’s his-
tory,” said Kari Brooks, executive
director of the Umatilla County
Historical Society.
Admission to the museum is
$5 for adults, $2 for students, $4
for seniors and $10 for a family.
