This is an introductory class of the Indonesian and Indian art of batik, which combines a wax resist process, dye, and fabric. It involves hot wax and will run for 2-3 hours. The music starts at 1 p.m. The free, public “Bend Not Break” suicide awareness concert will also include an opener by magician/motivational speaker Brad Barton. Cassy Kellogg was the lo- cal resident who saw Boyé on social media and reached out to see about him coming to La Grande. To fund the concert, she found an “angel” who donated $50,000. Her husband, Don Kel- logg, is raising another $15,000 to pay for Barton and the rest of the event. Exhibitors will have booths at the concert to provide mental health resources and the Kel- loggs also are working with the La Grande Lions Club to sell hamburgers. The concert will strive to follow all COVID-19 mandates, including masks and social distancing. Attendees are urged to bring blankets and folding chairs to the concert. Boyé is a former member of the European boy-band Awe- some and of the Mormon Tab- ernacle Choir. His professional career has included recording religious and Latter-day Saints music. He also appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and was named the 2017 artist of the year and grand prize winner in a music contest sponsored by Pepsi and Hard Rock Cafe.
