About Obituaries
In the Sept. 22 edition, the Eagle incorrectly stated the stu-
dent-teacher breakdown in a COVID-19 outbreak totaling nine
cases at Humbolt Elementary School that was listed in the Ore-
gon Health Authority’s Sept. 22 weekly outbreak report. The
OHA report stated that six students and three teachers had tested
positive for COVID-19. The Eagle regrets the error.
Susan Kay Komning, of
Mt. Vernon Passed away
from this life September 24,
2021, at the age of 66 sur-
rounded by family and loved
ones after a short fight with
Mantle Cell Lymphoma. She
was born in Prineville, OR
on October 6, 1954 to Frank
and Eunice Dosser, the first
of 4 children, graduated
from Prineville High School
and attended COCC. While in
college and on her 19th birth-
day, Sue met the love of her
life, Dan. Sue married that
love on February 28, 1976
and celebrated 45 wonderful
and bountiful years together. In 1980, Sue and Dan purchased
their home on Hansen Lane in Mt Vernon and poured Sue’s love
into it.
Sue actively became a member of the community. She be-
longed to the Mt Vernon Grange. After becoming saved through
the Blood of Christ in 1983, She went on to become the vol-
unteer treasurer for 30 plus years for the John Day Church of
the Nazarene, worked for Dave Freeman CPA (20 yrs), Rozanne
Mullin’s H&R Block (16yrs) and for the family business Dakom
Logging from the inception in 1979. Sue was a ‘Prepper’. She
not only prepared for the future events, but she ‘prepped’ the
children around her. It was her mission to prep the hearts and
souls of the children who came through her home and those she
came into contact with. She wanted to prepare hearts and souls
for salvation through Christ by planting that seed of salvation.
Sue began teaching Bible truths and the Word of God through
Children’s Quizzing and continued for more than 20 years. She
loved and cherished all children and became a mentor, leader, and
treasurer for the Grant County 4-H association, fostered nearly 30
children through the OR State Foster Care System and her love of
swimming led her to participate in the John Day Swim Team as
treasurer, mentor & teacher.
Sue’s desire to be an active member of her children’s and
grandchildren’s lives led her to lead Friday night dinners, Sunday
get-togethers, camping in the mountains, swimming at the lakes,
hunting for deer and elk, and getting firewood. Nothing was ever
referred to as work, it was always called a family fun day.
Sue was preceded in death by her loving grandma Anna
Donaca and her parents, Frank and Eunice Dosser.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dan Komning; her
4 children LeAnn (Terry) Coalwell of John Day; Alesa (Andrew)
Molyneux of Mt. Vernon; Danny (Casey) Komning of John Day;
Abbie (Zach) Mobley of John Day; 13 grandkids, (Myckee, To-
rie, Trevyn, Ryan, Morgan, Carmen, Dalaney, Ryann, Dilynn, Levi,
Nolan, Mason, and Ty; with recently adding Stuart Mosier to the
family). She is also survived by siblings, Sally Potter of Fossil;
and brothers, Darrel and Dale Dosser of Alaska; her mother and
father-in-law, Curtis and Edie Komning of John Day; whom Sue
loved deeply and who they cared for as their own daughter
Sue leaves behind many friends in Christ who will surely miss
her presence but will be rejoicing with her at the banquet table
when their own personal invitations arrive for their trip home. Sue
was laid to rest in Christ’s arms at the Mill Creek Cemetery in
Prineville on October 1, 2021 where she joined many family mem-
bers from the Mill Creek area.
Memorial contributions in Sue’s memory can be made to the
Grant County 4H Leaders Association through Driskill Memorial
Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845. Paid for by the
family of Sue Komning.
