The 22,445-acre fi re is 95% con- tained as of Monday. The fi re is expected to be contained Sept. 5. Forest visitors are asked to use caution when recreating in the area. There will be fi re traffi c for the next few weeks. Visitors are also reminded that the Malheur National Forest is at Phase C of Public Use Restrictions and extreme fi re danger. The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the person responsible for the unlaw- ful taking and wasting of mule deer buck in John Day. On Aug. 8, the OSP Fish & Wildlife Division was notifi ed of a deceased mule deer buck within the city limits of John Day, in the vicinity of Canyon Creek and Canton Street, near River- side Trailer Park. Initial investi- gation revealed the buck had been shot with a fi rearm, on the night of Aug. 7, or the early morning hours of Aug. 8.
