Celebrating
100 years
Baker County Fair and
Panhandle Rodeo begins
Friday in Halfway

ALFWAY — The Baker
County Fair and Panhandle
Rodeo is celebrating 100 years
this weekend with a celebration
themed “A Century of Fun for
Everyone.”
The fair, traditionally held
over Labor Day weekend,
begins the afternoon of Friday,

The Panhandle Rodeo is Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the fairgrounds
in Halfway.
Sept. 3, and wraps up Monday,
Sept. 6.
The fair was canceled in
2020, which aff ected this year
because each event helps raise
money for the next one with pro-
ceeds from vendors, conces-
sions and the rodeo.
But organizers are still plan-
ning to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the Baker County
Fair in Halfway.
“We have a lot of little stuff
happening,” said Melody Huff ,
president of the Pine Valley Fair
Association.
Livestock events begin at
8:15 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
There is no charge for visitors to
the fairgrounds or midway.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the team
pack horse race starts in the ro-
deo arena, and mutton busting
follows at 6:30 p.m.
The Panhandle Rodeo starts
at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Admission is $12 reserved, $10
general admission, and free for
ages 6 and younger. Each rodeo
session includes mule races.
Both Saturday and Sunday
wrap up with a dance at the Pine
Valley Grange at 9 p.m.
A special concert by The
CELEBRATING THE HISTORY
OF EASTERN OREGON
Locals from Richland is planned
for 3-6 p.m. Sunday, followed by
a pie auction. Huff said there will
also be a fundraising raffl e to
win a buckle, plus various mer-
chandise for sale to celebrate
the 100th year of the fair.
On Monday, the fair’s fi nal
day, livestock awards will be pre-
sented at 8:30 a.m., followed by
the livestock auction at 9 a.m.
The fair parade entries start
lining up at 11:30 a.m. at the
Halfway Elementary School,
and the parade begins at
12:30 p.m.
The weekend concludes with
the final session of the rodeo at
2:30 p.m. Sunday.
