Emigrant Creek Ranger District fi re crews success- fully completed Silvies 12, approximately 800 acres, according to a press release. Crews were tentatively planning to begin ignitions on Silvies 7, 500 acres, early this week. Silvies 7 is south of Forest Road 31. Prairie City Ranger Dis- trict fi re crews successfully completed 250 acres on Elk 16 C, with approximately 50 acres to complete this week. The unit is located east of Forest Road 16 and Forest Road 1675 and west of the North Fork of the Eighth grade Charley Knowles Parent: Jessica Knowles Malheur River. Crews will tentatively begin ignitions on Elk 16 unit QA, 100 acres, the week of May 24. Blue Mountain Ranger fi re crews completed igni- tions on 1,600 acres on Murderers Creek 6 and will continue monitoring through the week. The unit is off the South Fork of Murderers Creek and adja- cent to John Young Mead- ows. Crews are considering ignitions on Galena 30, 41, 40c and Soda Bear 4a for later in this week or early the week of May 24. Grant County Senior Citizens Advisory Council to meet Blue Mountain Eagle The Grant County Senior Citizens Advisory Council will meet at 11 a.m. Wednes- day, June 2, at the Prairie City Senior Center, 204 McHaley Ave., Prairie City. The purpose of the semi-annual meeting is to introduce new members of the council appointed by the Grant County Court, and entertain new business pro- posed by council members. Board training will be pro- vided. There will be informa- tion sharing on senior pro- gram funding for 2022. The public is welcome. OTEC holds annual meeting Blue Mountain Eagle Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative held its vir- tual annual meeting May 15 at OTEC’s Baker City Headquarters. Board President Charlene Chase and CEO Les Penning provided reports on the status of the cooperative, then turned it over to OTEC’s attorney Ron Williams, who announced the election results of three Board of Directors positions. For Position 4, Union County, G. Austin Bingaman received 2,569 votes, and Charles Gillis received 806 votes. For Position 5, Baker County, Wayne Overton received 3,120 votes. The award was one of 85 grants totaling $10,095,681 provided to local organiza- tions statewide to support fi sh and wildlife habitat and water quality projects. The South Fork John Day Watershed Council received funding to work with private landowners on restoration eff orts in conjunction with the recently awarded South Fork John Day Regional Conser- vation Partnership Program through the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Projects that can be funded through the South Fork John Day RCPP need to be located within the South Fork John Day Watershed priority areas and practices include Juniper removal, cross fencing, upland water developments and forest health treatments. The council is also look- ing for input from landown- ers regarding projects they need to improve their agricul- tural operations. March 5, 1937 – May 10, 2021 Robert (Bob) Blakeslee of Monument, Oregon, passed away the evening of May 10 with his family at his side. Bob was born in Living- ston, Montana, March 5, 1937, to proud parents Don- ald and Edith (Foddness) Blakeslee. He joined an older sister, Suzanne. They lived on the family ranch at the base of Emigrant Peak on Six Mile Creek in the Paradise Valley, Montana. He was a graduate of Park County High School in Livingston, and afterward he joined the Army Reserves and served for two years. On June 7, 1958, he mar- ried Linda Burnett. They raised three children, Charlie, Debbie and Larry, on the fam- ily ranch, and in 1975, they moved their family to a ranch on Rudio Creek in Kimberly, Oregon. In 1982, they moved to Long Creek where he started his carpentry business building beautiful log homes and later retired in Monument, Oregon, where he spent his remaining years. Bob’s fi rst love in life was fl y fi shing. He was a master at the barbecue and an avid out- doorsman.
