Ian Humbird, 25, of Canyon City resisted arrest on a Grant County bench warrant with the original charge of first-degree tres- passing, third-de- gree escape and criminal mischief, according to Grant County Sheriff Ian Humbird Todd McKinley. McKinley said Humbird was walking down High- way 395 near the intersection on Washington Street and Izee Street around 11:17 a.m on May 6. “The individual resisted arrest by pulling away from the depu- ty’s grasp and then fl ed on foot and was ultimately taken into cus- tody with the assistance of a pro- bation offi cer near the 300 block of South Humbolt Street,” McKinley said. The Taser and pepper spray had little to no effect on Humbird, McKinley said. An ambulance was called to the scene, but no one was trans- ported, according to dispatch radio traffic. Humbird is being held at the Grant County Jail. Wednesday, May 12, 2021 A5 Woman dies in ATV crash near Ukiah Blue Mountain Eagle Two women were injured and one died in an ATV crash Saturday near Ukiah. At about 3 p.m. Saturday, Umatilla County Sheriff ’s Office and Oregon State Police responded to a report of two people injured in an ATV crash in the Hideaway Springs Road east of Ukiah, according to a sheriff ’s office press release. Pendleton Fire and Ukiah QRT responded, and medics on scene confirmed the operator of the ATV, Jessica Whitney Ice, a 33-year-old woman from Pend- leton, was deceased. An adult female passenger was transported by ambulance to Ukiah and then flown by helicopter to St. Mary’s Hos- pital in Walla Walla, Washing- ton. She is reportedly in good condition. Oregon State Police Crash Reconstruction was requested to conduct an investigation of the scene, which is ongoing. Grant County Circuit Court Byron E. Freniere violated his probation conditions for fail- ure to complete moral reconation therapy and report as directed. On May 6, he was sentenced to 10 additional hours of community service and ordered to pay a $25 probation violation fee. Cody Combs pleaded guilty to a count of second-degree theft and second-degree criminal tres- pass committed on Dec. 21. The adjudication was deferred, and the charges will be dismissed with- out entering a judgment of guilt if Combs completes 18 months of probation successfully. A count of criminal conspiracy was dismissed. Kaylee P. Dyer, 25, pleaded guilty on May 6 to a count of hin- dering prosecution committed on Dec. 28. Dyer was sentenced to 18 months of probation, 40 hours of community service and ordered to pay $200 in fi nes. Daisy P. Combs, 19, pleaded guilty to a count of fourth-degree assault and a count of harassment constituting domestic violence committed on Dec. 21. She was sentenced to 25 days in jail, 36 months of bench probation and 80 hours of community service. Charges of fourth-degree assault and harassment were dismissed. The trooper located Somer L. Robin- son, 32, of Dayville at a check- stand and told her she was under arrest. Robinson resisted arrest for several minutes and kicked the trooper in the shin. Robin- son screamed loudly over sev- eral minutes in Chester’s, caus- ing people to stop and watch, and shutting down the checkstand the trooper found her at. With the assistance of a John Day police offi cer, the trooper took Rob- inson into custody. During the course of arrest and transport, Robinson damaged the hand- cuff s, rendering them inopera- ble. OSP transported Robinson to the Grant County Jail and lodged her on two misdemeanor war- rants, resisting arrest, attempted assault of a public safety offi cer, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree disorderly conduct. May 3: A loaded log truck pulling a trailer, also loaded with logs, was northbound negotiat- ing a curve in the roadway when the trailer tipped over and spilled the logs onto the shoulder of the northbound lane and into Canyon Creek. When the logs came off the trailer, the trailer righted itself. A southbound Dodge pickup was struck by rocks and debris, caus- ing minor damage. No injuries were reported. The owner of the logs arranged to have the logs removed from Canyon Creek and the edge of the roadway. Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with traffi c control. May 3: A state trooper responded to a single-vehi- cle crash near milepost 115 on Highway 395B. The investiga- tion revealed a vehicle was south- bound at a stated 50 mph when the driver, Salvador Castillo, 65, swatted at a bee and drove off the southbound shoulder. Cas- tillo over-corrected, crossing both lanes of travel before going off the northbound shoulder, striking a fence at a low speed. Castillo was not injured, and his vehicle was not damaged except for a fl at tire. Castillo was issued citations for careless driving causing an accident and driving uninsured. May 3: A state trooper responded to a reported vehicle fi re near milepost 92 on Highway 395B. Investigation revealed a 53-year-old man was northbound pulling a camp trailer when his vehicle stalled. The man got out of his car and discovered it was on fi re near the gas tank area. The man stated he just had work done on the gas tank in Pendle- ton. The man attempted to use a fi re extinguisher but was unsuc- cessful. The vehicle became fully engulfed. Long Creek Fire Department responded and put out the fi re. The vehicle was a total loss, and the camper sus- tained minor damage. Both the camper and vehicle were towed by Frontier Towing.
