Grant County offi ces open by appointment
only, but circuit court remains open
GRANT UNION STUDENTS

All Grant County public offi ces are
open by appointment only.
A county-wide email said, “Due to
circumstances beyond our control, eff ec-
tive Friday, April 30, 2021, all county
offi ces will be closed to the public and
accepting appointments only. The situ-
ation will be re-evaluated on or around
May 6th.”
A subsequent press release from Cir-
cuit Court Judge Rob Raschio’s offi ce
said, while the county would be limiting
access to offi ces to appointment-only,
the Grant County Courthouse would be
open, and the circuit court would be open
to the public.
“The Grant County Circuit Court
remains open to the public for all mat-
ters including fi lings for civil matters,
emergency hearings to protect citi-
zens and any other matter,” Raschio
said. “The staff is prepared and

ready to assist members of the pub-
lic. The vast majority of our hearings
are being held over video recorded in
the courtroom with parties appearing
remotely.”

sher said Thursday that he is trying to
get more guidance from the state on
guidelines while the county remains in
extreme risk.

Training dates announced for
national rappel certifi cation
Blue Mountain Eagle
The Malheur National
Forest announced on April
29 that the rappel certifi ca-
tion training will run May 3
through May 8 and continues
on May 24 through May 28,
according to a press release.
Starting May 3, the John
Day Airbase will host a
weeklong annual certifi ca-
tion session for returning
rappellers.
During the May 5 session,
approximately 50 rappellers
and training cadre will uti-
lize the 50-foot high rappel
tower, two rappel simulators
and helicopters to accom-
plish their required annual
certifi cation. The training
sessions are also refreshers
for helicopter rappel spotters
and pilots, according to the
press release.
Classes will be training in
small groups to assist in main-
taining social and physical dis-
tancing. Returning rappellers
sessions are held for re-certi-
fi cation purposes; the sessions
involve safety review, tower
training, helicopter mockups
and live rappels.
The May 24 session is an
initial certifi cation event to
train approximately 35 new
