Rape case against
County reschedules vaccine clinic to Thursday
McKrola moves forward 200 more doses expected
By Steven Mitchell
Blue Mountain Eagle
A judge ruled Tuesday that
a case against a Mt. Vernon
man, charged with forcible rape
and kidnapping, will move for-
ward after his defense attorney
argued to dismiss.
Brogan McKrola, 22, is
accused of rape, sodomy and
sexual abuse — all by forc-
ible compulsion — as well as
kidnapping, strangulation and
furnishing alcohol to a minor,
according to a Jan. 7 indict-
ment in Grant County Circuit
Court.
McKrola’s defense attorney,
Kati Dunn, filed a demurrer
Jan. 15, seeking to dismiss the
charges. At the hearing Tues-
day, she argued the state did not
provide the grand jury with the
correct law language under the
current sodomy statute, which
the state recently changed.
Baker County Circuit Court
Judge Matt
Shirtcliff,
who
heard
the motion,
denied
the
demurrer but
ordered the
Brogan
state to file a
McKrola
new arraign-
ment and amend the indictment.
McKrola’s attorney also
asked Shirtclifft to reduce
McKrola’s bail from $330,000
to $50,000. Shirtcliff said he
wanted to read over a mem-
orandum filed by Dunn
before making a ruling on the
request.
Carpenter, according to the
motion, objects to McKrola’s
release.
In a Dec. 23 press release,
Carpenter said the charges
stem from events at a party in
the 400 block of Southwest
Brent Street in John Day, Dec.
19, involving numerous minors
and alcohol.

Frigid weather delayed the county’s
vaccine shipment, prompting the health
department to cancel Monday’s vaccine
clinic for the 70 and older group.
Kimberly Lindsay, Grant County,
public health administrator, said in
a Monday phone call that the ship-
ment arrived and that the health depart-
ment rescheduled the vaccine clinic to
Thursday.
She said Thursday’s clinic would be
for those in the higher priority groups,
such as health care workers, educators,
people 80 and over, and then people 75
and 70.
She said the health department must
have a supply available for people who
move into residential facilities or for peo-
ple who receive the first dose in another
county but move to Grant County and
need a second dose.
Lindsay said she expects the state to
send an additional 200 doses Friday. She

those interested in receiving the vac-
cine,” she said.
In the future, Lindsay said, when they
receive additional shipments, they work
off the list to get people in for the vac-
cine as the state expands its eligibility
criteria.
“We will need to continue to do this
for the near, immediate future,” she
said, “until the vaccine is more widely
available.”
said the health department plans to hold
a vaccine clinic for people in the 75 and
older group and then those in the 70 and
older group.
She said she does not know when
the county will receive additional vac-
cine shipments from the state next week.
Weather permitting, Lindsay said the
state guarantees that they would send
booster shots.
