David Leeland Drury
Allan R. Olson
Elberta Jean Miller
Sept. 18, 1938 – Feb. 14, 2021
Reverend David Leeland Drury went peacefully to be with his
Lord Jesus on Feb. 14, 2021, at 82 years of age. The service will be
on Feb. 27, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Cornerstone Christian Fellow-
ship, John Day.
David was born at home on Sept. 18,
1938, in Festus, Missouri. At 13, David was
asked if he was a Christian, and answer-
ing, “No, sir”, he was then asked, “Don’t
you think it’s about time?” and promptly
answering “Yes, sir, I do,” David became
a Christian.
In Alaska, while an Army private, he
met Mary Lou Crowley at Trinity Baptist
Church, where they were married in June
1963. Later, in 1970, he graduated from
Clear Creek Baptist College, fulfilling a call to ministry.
He led many people to the Lord while pastoring churches in
Arkansas, Washington and Oregon. Retirement from Calvary
Baptist Church, Brewster, Washington, didn’t last long as he con-
tinued to serve at both Cornerstone Fellowship and Mt. Vernon
Presbyterian.
He was small of stature but huge of heart. Loved and treasured
by many, he was generous, creative and constantly busy. His love
for Jesus was legendary — there was no mistaking it. He loved
hunting, woodworking, taxidermy, cars, shopping and believed he
could fix anything broken. He created family locally because rela-
tives were far away.
David is now in heaven, having heard the words “well done, my
good and faithful servant” from his Lord.
David was predeceased by his parents, John Edward and Her-
mene, and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his
son Glen Drury and, wife Kimberly; his daughter Janice Dickens and
husband, Artie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Chris-
tian Fellowship through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon
Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.
Sept. 7, 1935 — Feb. 3, 2021
Allan R. Olson, age 85, passed away on Feb. 3, 2021, at his resi-
dence in John Day, Oregon. A funeral service was held on Saturday,
Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Grant County Regional Airport. Interment
at the Canyon City Cemetery to follow.
Al was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Twin
Falls, Idaho, to Sidney and Beulah (Bee-
son) Olson. He attended Boise High School
and Northwest Nazarene College. During
this time, he also served in the United
States Army as a private first class upon his
discharge.
He then continued his education, obtain-
ing his master’s degree through the Univer-
sity of Idaho.
He was a music teacher for the Grant
County School District No. 3 for 28 years up until his retirement.
During his career, he had several accomplishments; He taught many
generations of Grant County residents to play musical instruments,
sing and appreciate music. He established the “Olson Music Stu-
dio,” which later became “The Music Factory.” He also founded
and taught “Kids Bible.”
He enjoyed playing the violin, recorder and would spend his
time reading the Bible and other literature associated with the Bible.
He was a member of The Brethren Church in Walla Walla, Wash-
ington, and had his pilot’s license.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Beulah
Olson.
Survivors include his sons, Tom Olson of John Day, Oregon,
Buz (Karen) Olson of Seaside, Oregon, and Gary Olson of Yakima,
Washington; granddaughters, Sabrina Olson and Dani Olson;
grandsons, Ziek Olson and Ryan Olson; and one great-granddaugh-
ter, Salena Gonzales.
Memorial contributions in Al’s honor may be made to the Hum-
bolt Elementary Music Department through Driskill Memorial
Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.

Sept. 5, 1933 – Feb. 15, 2021
Elberta Jean (Craig) Miller died in Canyon City, Oregon, on
Feb. 15, 2021, aged 87 years. She was born in Grand Junction,
Colorado, on Sept. 5, 1933, to John and Erna (Lampshire) Craig.
Elberta will be cremated and her memo-
rial will be announced later this year.
Elberta had many occupations
during her lifetime. From ages 11-13
she was a bowling pin setter. From
ages 13-15 she lied about her age so
she could work in a convalescent home.
She was a waitress, cook, baker, peach
packer and crab shaker. Anything to
support her family. While working at
Georgia Pacific Lumber, she trained for
every job on the mill floor so she could
be a utility worker (the first female to do this job at GPL),
whose job it was to give all the other workers their breaks.
Later in life she got her GED, became a licensed tax preparer
and hotel night auditor.
She married Erie Miller on Nov. 8, 1968. She is survived
by her husband, Sherry Craig-Miller (Dave), Dallas Ludahl
(Scott), Dawn Lewis, Annette Keen, Larry Miller, Marcella Cor-
reia (Steve), Sandra Conner (Guy) and Kimberly Wall (Mike).
Upon her death she had 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchil-
dren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Miller;
great-grandson, Christopher Hook; and her siblings, Eunice,
Estella and Jim.
She was an expert markswoman who loved to fish, hunt,
camp, sing, read, and do the New York Times crossword. She
hated cooking and housework but was particular about both.
Always up for an adventure, when she and Erie retired, they
traveled across the country for a month in their touring van. The
highlight of their trip was New York City, where they attended
“Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserable.”
