field goals and hit two out
of six free-throws.
With four minutes left
to play in the first quarter,
Crane was up 7-3.
Junior Jayden Winegar,
who put up an all-around
solid game, nailed two of
his five field goals, while
Field drained a 3-pointer to
even up the score at 7.
By the end of the first
period, the teams were tied
10-10.
In the second half, the
Panthers’ shots started to
land. In the third quar-
ter, Prairie City outscored
Crane 14-8.
By the end of the third
period of play, the Panthers
led the Mustangs 34-26.
With Winegar, soph-
omore Marcus Judd and
senior Cole Deiter all scor-
ing in double figures and
combining for 39 points,
the Panthers never looked
back and outscored Crane
20-13 in the fourth quarter.
“They’re really playing
good together as a team,”
head coach Bo Workman
said.
Judd, who scored 13
points and was one of three
at the free-throw line, was
named player of the game.

Prairie City fans packed the Grant Union High School gym
Saturday for the Panthers’ district championship game ver-
sus Crane. The Panthers defeated the Mustangs 56-41.
“I am proud of our team
and all that we have accom-
plished this season,” Field
said.
Field said all of the teams
in the tournament played
hard and that should not go
unnoticed.

Senior Cole Deiter shoots a fade-away jumper Saturday over a Crane defender. Crane fell to
the Panthers 56-41 in the district championship game as Prairie City clinched a first-round
bye at the state tournament.
“I think they all deserve
to be recognized,” he said.
With the win, the Pan-
thers clinched a first-round
bye in the state tourna-

Ukiah/Long Creek boys lose to Adrian at districts
By Steven Mitchell
Blue Mountain Eagle
The Ukiah/Long Creek boys bas-
ketball team faced Adrian to kick off
the High Desert League Tournament
Thursday but lost, 65-44.
With a chance to end their sea-
son on a winning note in the conso-
lation game the next day, the Moun-
tain Lions lost to Dayville/Monument
48-39.
Ukiah/Long Creek got off to a
rough start and could not make up
ground the rest of the game against
Adrian.
Ukiah/Long Creek’s Ben Combs,
a senior, said the team had a chance
going into the game, and had beat
Adrian 67-50 back on Jan. 25.
Senior James Kreamier knocked
down seven field goals and drained
three out of six free throws for 17
points to lead the team.
Freshman Michael Martin, who
nailed a 3-point jumper and went one
for two at the free throw line, ended
up with 7 points.
Combs, the Mountain Lions’ offen-
sive threat this season, contributed
5 points. Combs, playing with an
injured right hand, insisted on play-
ing, head coach TC Connor said.
“He’s an offensive spark for the
team, and he has a lot of heart,” Con-
nor said. “That is why I let him play.”
Connor said the team came a long
way this season from where they were
The boys entered the contest with
a winning record, an overall record of
13-8 and a league record of 6-3.
kicks off Feb. 29 with the
game times and teams to be
announced.
