Grant County Sheriff’s Offi ce Search & Rescue
(GCSO SAR)
Overview
GCSO SAR provides various search and rescue services to Grant County and our neighboring counties under mutual aid agreements through
the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association and the Oregon Ofice of Emergency Management in Salem, Oregon. GCSO SAR averages 3 SAR missions
a month, about 35 in this last year. GCSO SAR has monthly meetings, weekend and weeknight trainings most of the year. Our missions for the
last year included a plethora of overdue hunters (our busiest season), overdue motorists, hikers, campers and explorers. We had a number of
missions last winter where vehicles and people were stuck in remote areas of our county and were unable to extricate themselves from their
situation. In the last year we have done a lot of searching from 5-year-olds walking away from home to hikers who perished on a mountain top.
We have done everything from looding evacuation to mitigation via ire evacuation exercises.
Mission Statement
Protect life – minimize the loss of life, injury, property damage or loss by rendering aid to persons in distress.
Vision
Our goal at GCSO SAR is to develop a team of well trained and skilled volunteers (about 50 of them) with enough training equipment and other
resources so that we can handle most any SAR mission which comes our way. We are currently about 1/2 way to our stafing and equipment
needs goals.
Giving Opportunities
We are always looking for funding. Please make out any donation to GCSO SAR. We will start our annual new member recruitment November 1,
2019 through January 31, 2020; come by the Sheriff’s Ofice for information and an application. Our team needs all kinds and types of support
and professional personalities which enjoy teamwork and the SAR mission: to save lives.
