rairie City Panther senior Rilee
Emmel’s great serving in the third set
helped her team jump from a 7-6 to a
14-7 lead, and Laken McKay helped
seal it with five good serves to close the
set 25-12 in Friday’s sweep of the Sherman Hus-
kies in Prairie City.
The Panthers won the first two sets 25-21 and
25-20.
Prairie City also swept two teams at home Sat-
urday in nonleague games, beating the Pine Eagle
Spartans with scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-11
and the Trinity Lutheran Saints 25-21, 25-12 and
25-17.
On Friday, Prairie City senior Emily Ennis said
they didn’t play to the best of their ability, but she
was glad to see they improved.
Panther head coach Jordan Bass said Sherman
is a team that will “give everything back to us.”
She said her team was able to eliminate their
errors.
“I ask the girls to have a lot of purpose,” Bass
said. “We worked on control of the ball and con-
trolling the speed of the game.”
She said they also fought to avoid letting their
opponents run the score up on them.
“Attitude and energy” are two points they’re
focusing on, she said.
“I let the starters work some things out,” she
added. “They have to battle through ups and
downs. They have to figure out how to change that
momentum when the game isn’t going our way.”
Prairie City hosted the Grant Union Prospec-
tor junior varsity team on Tuesday, past press time.
The Panthers face the Harper Hornets at noon
(MT) Friday on the road in league play. On Satur-
day, Prairie City travels to Trinity Lutheran in Port-
land, where they’ll play Sherman at 1:30 p.m. and
Trinity Lutheran at 3 p.m in nonleague games.

The Prairie City/Burnt River Panthers and Sherman/Con-
don Huskies both had season opening wins under their belts
upon facing each other Friday night in Prairie City, but the
Huskies ran up the score early for a 47-16 win.
Panther Jayden Winegar intercepted Husky Cort Colby’s
pass intended for Wade Fields on Sherman/Condon’s first
possession.
Fields was one for Prairie City/Burnt River to stop as he
seemed to easily find openings, including an opportunity for a
54-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Sherman/Condon led 28-0 at the half.
The Huskies scored twice in the third. Then Panther Declan
Zweygardt came unleashed, rushing 15 yards.
Prairie City/Burnt River was penalized with less than 2:30
left in the third, and moments later, Prairie City/Burnt River
head coach Scott Dean was ejected from the game after talking
back to a referee.
