FAMILY Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, May 22, 2019 OBITUARIES BIRTHS Katheryn Etta Maley Jim Garland Daniels April 8, 1946 — April 15, 2019 Katheryn Etta Maley, sister, wife, mother, grand- mother, aunt and friend, died on April 15. She was born in Ontario, Oregon, to Jim and Kate Cole on April 8, 1946. She was the fi rst born of six kids, Mary, Sherry, Jimmy, Sandy and John. As a kid, they moved from the Payette, Idaho, area to Grant County. Kay went to school in Prairie City where she met Jerry Maley. They married on Jan. 10, 1964, and were married for 55 years. On Feb. 17, 1965, their son, Rocky Maley, was born and then their daughter, Tammy Maley, joined the fam- ily June 8, 1967. Kay loved her yard and garden, camping, fi shing, cooking and spending time with her grandkids. Kay worked for the Prairie City nursing home and Blue Mountain Hospital. She was a member of the Prairie City Rebekah Lodge where she was the Grand Noble. Kay’s vacations were going up on the mountain and cooking for her brother, John. She always enjoyed cook- ing on the mountain for her brother and, when she was no longer able to cook, she would camp at the gate. Kay was preceded in death by parents, Jim and Kate Cole; sister, Mary (2013) and sister Sandy (2018). And survived by husband, Jerry Maley; son, Rocky and Deanna Maley; daughter, Tammy Maley; grandkids, Cole, Chey- Anne and Dillon Maley, Abigal Christensen-Kneeland, Lucas and Andrea Forrest, Riley and Cammie Forrest; sister, Sherry Cole and Jude Lehner; brothers, Jimmy Cole and John and Deb Cole; and great-grandchildren, Marshall and Garrett Forrest. Services will be held May 25 at the Fox Church at 1 p.m. followed by a potluck at the Fox School House. Aug. 2, 1939 — May 13, 2019 Jim Garland Daniels, 79, of Prineville, Oregon, passed away on Monday, May 13, at his home, surrounded by his family. Jim was a long time resident of Prai- rie City, Oregon, before moving to Prineville. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, May 18, at the Prineville Missionary Baptist Church (1870 NW Riverland Loop) at 11 a.m.; Pastor Daniel Barker will be offi ciating. Jim’s urn will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, in a private family burial. Jim was born on Aug. 2, 1939, to Homer and Oleita (Norman) Daniels in Ada, Oklahoma. He attended the Prospect High School in Prospect, Oregon, graduating in 1957. Jim went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1958-1961. He played baseball and basketball while he was in the Army. He was a logging and long haul truck driver in the logging industry and was also a security guard. Jim also showed and bred his beloved AKC-registered boxers. He loved spending time in his backyard on his deck drinking coffee and enjoying nature. Jim loved his family and was a proud grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife, Twila Daniels of Prineville; daughters, Aaron Gonzales of Socorro, New Mexico, Tammy (Price) Danley of Hillsboro, Oregon, Lucretia Dan- iels of Phoenix, Arizona, Tonya Kennedy of Prineville; grandchildren, Jordan Daniels, Adan Rescate, Taylor Ken- nedy, Ashley Smith, Phoenix Kearly and Orion Kenne- dy-Copeland; six great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Judy) Daniels of Miramar, Florida; and sister, Sue (Russ) Lyman, of West Jordan, Utah. He was preceded in death by his mother, Oleita Wood- ward; sons, Jimmy Garland Daniels Jr. and Thomas Ken- nedy; brothers, Gary Daniels and Leo Daniels. Nova Aurora Ruby Myers Nova Aurora Ruby Myers was born on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:52 p.m. She was 5 pounds, 7 ounces and 17 inches long. She is the fi rst child of Trevor and Jessie Myers. Her grandparents are Steve and Janet Myers of Independence, Missouri, and her great-grandparents are Max and Betty Breeding of Monument. Three Grant County juniors will attend Girls State State chairman for the Prai- rie City Unit, said the pro- gram is designed to increase the girls’ awareness and knowledge of governmental pro- cesses, while learn- ing about the duties, privileges, rights Samantha and responsibilities Floyd of citizenship. Blue Mountain Eagle Three girls from two Grant County high schools have been selected to attend the June 16-23 Girls State session held at Willamette University in Salem. The American Legion Auxiliary of Prairie City Unit 106 announced Emily Ennis, a junior at Prairie City High School, will make the trip. The Ellis Tracy Unit 77 in John Day will send Grant Union juniors Kayt- lyn Wells and Saman- tha Floyd to the event. “Approximately 150 of Oregon’s most outstanding high school junior girls are expected to attend,” said Girls State Chair- man Tammy Bremner.
