Long Creek raises funds for fi rst responders
By Eric Sines
To the Blue Mountain Eagle
This year’s Long Creek
annual volunteer appreciation
dinner was a huge success, rais-
ing thousands to provide addi-
tional training for volunteers
and allow for the purchase of
safety equipment.
The community-wide event
had over 150 people turning
out to support the Long Creek
Ambulance Crew and Volunteer
Fire Department.
The dinner was hosted by
the Long Creek School Booster
Club and the city of Long Creek.
Long Creek students served the
meal, which was prepared by the
best cooks in town.
A raffl e of gift baskets, hand-
made items, gift certifi cates,
toys and other prizes, along
with an auction of artwork and
other treasures fi lled the evening
with generosity and community
pride.
Funds were
raised for Long
Creek fi rst
responders
during a dinner
and auction
April 27.

tain Hospital. Ken was born in John Day, Oregon, on April
7, 1926, to Tod and Julia (Lemons) Moore, being their only
child.
He attended Cummingsville School, a one-room building
still standing about a mile west of his home between Mt. Ver-
non and Dayville. Out of school, he worked with his dad in
local construction projects until he got on with the Forest Ser-
vice in the late 1950s. Starting out part time and then full time
in fi re control and then later as a shop mechanic retiring in
1990.
His fi rst marriage to Dona Lee Janney produced two sons,
Wesley and Fred. His second marriage was to Irene (Offi cer)
Stockman in 1969, and he was happily married for 35 years
until her death in 2004. After her death, he and Millie Belshaw
became very close and were companions up until his death.

Cherie Lyn Moore of Fox; fi ve grandchildren; and several

Day died April 22 in Bend, Oregon,
following a short battle with cancer.
No services are planned at this time.

in Hood River, Oregon. She remembers him as the best
friend she has ever had and the world’s most perfect per-
son. John could do just about anything he set his mind to.
Cathy was often surprised at the things he accomplished
and was sure to express how proud she was.
“I was so blessed to be by his side for 27 years and to
remain there as he went to heaven to be with his mother,
who also died of cancer. I know they are having a nice
talk right now and I told him to tell her hi for me,” she
said.
