Notice of Public Hearing
Notice is hereby given that the John Day Planning Commission is
considering the following applications:
Land Use Review & Class B Variance (Type III) – LUR-19-01
David Holland proposes to improve an existing storage shed (14’x40’)
at 850 NW Bridge Street, John Day that currently has a 10-foot front
setback. Applicant wishes to remodel and extend the shed 14 feet
south to enlarge the building to a 28’ x 40’ storage building. Appli-
cant has requested a variance to maintain the existing 10-foot set-
back from Bridge Street for the expansion. The standard minimum
front setback is 20 feet from garage/carport opening to sidewalk or
right-of-way, whichever is closest. Class B variances are allowed for
requests that do not otherwise meet the criteria under subsection
5-5.1.030 of the City of John Day Development Code (the Code).
The Planning Commission may approve the variance subject to a
public hearing on the matter. The Planning Commission will consider
relevant aspects of the Code, including the criteria for Residential
Setback Yard Purpose (Section 5-2.2.040) in rendering a decision.
This property is zoned Residential General (RG).
Sign Permit & Class B Variance (Type III) – SP-19-01
The Grant County Library Foundation has applied to erect a new
sign at the Grant County Library, 507 S. Canyon Boulevard, John
Day. Applicant has requested to place a new sign (5’x4’) with a base
height of seven-feet, which exceeds the maximum height restrictions
for free standing signs as permitted in the Code. The Planning Com-
mission may approve the variance subject to a public hearing on the
matter.
A public hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. in
the John Day Fire Hall, 316 S. Canyon Boulevard, John Day, OR.
Copies of the subject application(s), all documents, and evidence
relied upon by the applicant(s) and applicable criteria are available
