everal varsity players are return-
ing to the Grant Union Prospec-
tor girls basketball team, includ-
ing last season’s all-state co-player of
the year Kaylee Wright.
The team extended their post-season
last year, bringing home the fourth-place
trophy from the OSAA Girls Basketball
State Championship. They were also
Wapiti League champions.
It was the Prospectors’ third consec-
utive run at state, and this season they
hope to go even further.
The team is led by head coach Kris-
ti Moore, an experienced coach who is
taking over where Casey Hallgarth left
off last year. Moore’s assistant coach is
Alec Moore, her uncle. The junior varsi-
ty coach is Jeremy LaFramboise, and the
junior high team is led by Doug Sharp.
Moore said this year’s varsity team
is a well-rounded group with excellent
skill sets.
“Our goal is to maximize our talents
to work together to be the best team we
can be, and in doing that, we think that
we’ll be successful,” she said.
On top of having good teamwork,
Moore said the girls are fast with a de-
fensive flair, including attacking the ball
and attacking the rim.
“They can all shoot, and they can all
play defense,” she said.
Moore said they have some height
this year, and all the girls are good
jumpers.

Grant County Wrestling Club places first in home tourney
“Overall it went well,” the
coach said, adding he couldn’t
do it without all the help.

The Grant County Wres-
tling Club gave the home
crowd something to cheer
about over the weekend.
A total of 172 youth wres-
tlers competed in John Day
on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the
Grant County Wrestling Tour-
nament.
The Grant County Wres-
tling Club won with 456 to-
tal match points, and Baker
placed second with 248 out
of the 15 teams competing at
Grant Union Junior-Senior
High School. Grant County
had a total 73 wins and 39
losses.
There were 40 Grant
County club wrestlers partic-
ipating, mainly ranging in age
from 4 to 8.
“The littles are catching
on quick,” said Grant Coun-
ty head coach Steve Parsons.
“They’re winning about 65
to 75 percent of their match-
es. It’s really good for a small
team.”

The coach said feedback
from the tournament has been
positive.
“We had a lot of great help
from the community,” Par-
sons said.
He said Sherry and Len-
ny Dowdy ran the hospitality
room, and high school wres-
tlers volunteered as refer-
