The free financial workshop teaches how and why to build
a personal budget and how to use a “credit repair toolbox.” For

Cancer research benefit dinner
• 4:30 p.m., John Day Golf Club
There will be a benefit dinner to support gastrointestinal stro-
mal tumor cancer research. There will be two dinner times at 4:30
p.m. and 6 p.m. The cost is $15 for singles, $25 for couples and
$7 for ages 7 and under. For more information, call the golf club

Women’s Advent mini-retreat
• 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., John Day United Methodist Church
St. Thomas Episcopal and John Day United Methodist
churches will be hosting a mini-retreat focused on the season
of Advent. Potluck breakfast begins at 8 a.m. followed by med-
itation, devotions, crafts and fellowship concluding at 2 p.m.

Timber Truckers Light Parade
W HAT’S
• 6 p.m., downtown John Day
The parade theme this year is “Tis the Night Before Christ-
mas.” The entry fee is $10. Winners will be announced at the Elks
Lodge following the parade. Registration is from 3-5:30 p.m. at

Auxiliary bazaar

The holiday bazaar features a large variety of items — most-
ly handcrafted — with soup and pie available as well as pictures
with Santa (bring a camera). For more information, call Mi-

The Blue Mountain Care Center will be hosting a Christmas
party for their residents and their families, followed by a silent des-
sert auction to raise money for the resident council fund. Refresh-

Winter Festival

‘Christmas 1918’ concert
• 7 p.m., John Day United Methodist Church
The Grant County Youth Arts Program and the Juniper Arts
Council will present a free concert including three choirs, an
orchestra, choir chimes, two guitar classes and multiple so-
loists. Photographs from World War I will be available for

Winter bazaar

The sixth annual winter bazaar features homemade decor, beau-
ty products, food and accessories. The 4-H club will be serving
hamburgers, and the Monument ambulance will be hosting a des-
sert fundraiser. The cost per table is $10. For more information or
