Two die in crash near Burns Redmond motorcyclist dies in crash

Two residents of Hines
died Thursday in a two-vehi-
cle crash near Burns.
Oregon State Police re-
ported troopers and emergen-
cy personnel at about 2:40
p.m. responded to the report
of a crash at intersection of
Highway 395 and U.S. High-
way 20 about 2 miles east of
Burns.
The investigation showed
Judy Patterson, 78, of Hines
was driving a 2000 Mercu-
ry Sable south on Highway
395 when she failed to stop
at the stop sign at the inter-
section with Highway 20. A
westbound 2015 Chevrolet
Suburban struck the Sable on
the driver’s side.
Patterson and her passen-
ger, Charles Thompson, 83,
of Hines died at the scene,
Amanda Hoyt, 43, of
Burns drove the Suburban.
An ambulance took her to
the Harney District Hospital
in Burns, where emergency
medical staff treated and re-
leased her.

ported a Redmond man died
Sept. 26 in Wheeler Coun-
ty after losing control of
his motorcycle on Highway
207.
State troopers and emer-
gency personnel at about
12:40 p.m. responded to
milepost 27.5 on Highway
207 near Spray for a colli-
sion between a motorcycle
and a semitrailer.
According to state po-
lice, the preliminary inves-
tigation revealed Gregory
Vibbert, 26, was traveling
south on a 1987 Harley-Da-
vidson Heritage motorcy-
cle as David Belyea, 63,
of Hermiston was driving
a 2001 Peterbilt semitrailer
north. Vibbert lost control
of the motorcycle and laid
the machine on its side,
colliding with the semitrail-
er near the centerline on a
curve.

Vibbert died from his inju-
ries.

Circuit Court
Michael A. Salanti, 62, Mt.
Vernon, pleaded guilty Sept.
20 to misdemeanor driving un-
der the influence of intoxicants
committed on March 3. He was
sentenced to 20 days in jail, 24
months probation, 80 hours of
community service and $1,755
in fines and fees. His license was
suspended for one year, and he
was ordered to install an ignition
interlock device on any vehicle
he drives.
A misdemeanor charge
against Lloyd G. Rodgers, 58,
Nampa, Idaho, of driving under
the influence of intoxicants al-
legedly committed Aug. 8, 2017,
was dismissed Sept. 25 on Dis-
trict Attorney Jim Carpenter’s
motion that it was in the best in-
terests of justice.
A felony charge against
Wendy T. Cates, 53, Mt. Ver-
non, of tampering with a witness
committed Nov. 27, 2017, was
dismissed Sept. 25 on District
Attorney Jim Carpenter’s motion
that it was in the best interests of
justice.

tor vehicle crash without injuries
on Highway 26 west of John
Day. An eastbound pickup struck
a deer as it passed a westbound
SUV that failed to dim its lights.
Sept. 24: Received reports
that the payment boxes at Clyde
Holliday, Magone Lake and Uni-
ty Reservoir campgrounds had
been broken into and robbed.
About $415 in cash and credit
card receipts reportedly were
stolen from Clyde Holliday State
Park.
Sept. 24: A rancher in the Fox
area reported finding an elk car-
cass on his property that he be-
lieved was killed by trespassing
hunters. The Nevada Department
of Wildlife was assisting in the
investigation.
Sept. 28: Responded to
Highway 395 north of Mt. Ver-
non for a crash with injuries. A
southbound tractor turned left
and stopped at an access gate
when a northbound pickup truck
struck the tractor and flipped it
on its side, trapping the tractor
driver inside until an ambulance
arrived. Both drivers were trans-
ported to the hospital.

On February 12, 2018, Old West Federal Credit Union (“Old West”)
foreclosed on the storage facility through a sheriff’s sale conducted by the
Grant County sheriff and pursuant to the judgment entered in Grant County
Circuit Court Case No. 16CV34723.
The 180-day redemption period for the sheriff’s sale expired on August 12,
2018. The property was not redeemed. Old West is now the owner of the
storage facility. Old West intends to send notices of abandoned personal
property in accordance with Oregon law for those storage-unit tenants who
do not contact Old West in a timely manner.
