Aircraft club members fly in for John Day tour
Blue Mountain Eagle
Fourteen members of the Oregon An-
tique and Classic Aircraft Club flew in
Thursday at the Grant County Regional
Airport in John Day, bringing seven planes.
The group had made stops in Madras
and Joseph, and while in John Day they vis-
ited the Kam Wah Chung & Co. Museum.
Club members planned to leave Thurs-
day afternoon for their final stop in Cottage
Grove.
Tim Talen of Springfield, one of the
founding members of the club, said the
group enjoys flying vintage aircraft while
touring Oregon.
“We fly around the state and promote
aviation as much as we can,” he said. “We
want to keep it around, and this is what we
love to do.”
Talen brought his ’41 Interstate Cadet.
Wayne Boyter said the club also encour-
ages younger people to become involved in
aviation.
At times the group has had up to 40 air-
craft, touring every other year, and Talen
said people don’t have to be a pilot to join
the organization.
Although they had a smaller group this
year, members came from Oregon, Califor-
nia and Washington to join in.
“We support smaller airports with peo-
ple flying from all over the place,” Talen
said.
A pilot with a ’52 Bonanza C35 also joined the
Oregon Antique and Classic Aircraft Club.

members of the Oregon Antique and Classic Aircraft Club. Other aircraft on
show included a ’47 C140, ’49 Piper PA16 Clipper, ’52 Bonanza C35 and a
2008 RV6. A total of 14 club members came to John Day for one of their stops
during a tour that included Joseph and Cottage Grove. The group visited Kam
Wah Chung while in John Day.

PRAIRIE CITY — Well,
talk about ups and

on the book. What
happened to everybody?
We had a picnic again:

sandwiches, choice of a
bag of chips, pasta salad,
peaches, pickles, and cake and ice cream for dessert. July 25 is July
birthday recognition day, so if you have a birthday in July (and are over
50), you are eligible for that drawing. The winner of the gift certificate
towards a meal donated by Chuck’s Little Diner was pastor Jack
Retherford. He is our default blessing giver, which service he performed
again. Summer volunteer Ellie Justice led the flag salute.

Faithful home deliverers Ken, Carlos and Larry did their service. Lots of
volunteers were missing and the Blue Mountain Care Center did not get to
come.
But the pinochle players were in attendance. The idea of having another
day/time to play was floated. Some have a conflict on Wednesday
morning.
informed decision. The office got moved to the new room and the old room
is being readied for the carpet installation. Found some good curtain
material that was inexpensive, so now to get up over the window. Which
brings up the question: why do we have windows if we cover them up with
curtains? Hmmm.
Time to start thinking about your Grant County Fair entries for both the
parade and pavilion. I was really pleased with the large amount of floats,
etc. for all the celebrations on the Fourth of July. Let’s do it again for the
fair, people.
And it’s only five months until Christmas!
Derrol just pulled the last of the first crop of radishes. That means that I
have to go plant the second crop. Hope they will be ready by the time the
in-laws from Poland come in August. The peas are doing their thing and
the beets are getting close. And so far, no deer nibbling that I can see. PTL.
I think all the driving around to the various medical appointments and the
hot weather has gotten to me. Can’t think of anything to talk about…
Psalm 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
We had our monthly board meeting after the meal. General contractor Joel

JOHN DAY — Ron Dowse
and I had desk duty on
Monday, July 17. Our table
service was provided by the
First Christian Church:
Karen Barrietua, Roberta
and Ron Dowse, Jan Ellison,
and Becky Rhinehart, who
brought Brianna and Tayla
Sharp. Thank you again to
our Step Forward crew, who made all of the deliveries. They took out 25
regular and 28 frozen meals to John Day, Canyon City and Mt. Vernon. I
wish I could thank you all, personally, especially David Gill - great job. The
flag salute was led by Brianna Sharp, and our drawings produced winners
Nadine Smith, who won the Lens Drug gift certificate, and Olivia Cornell,
who won the gift of two meals here at the center. Linda Stoltz wants to
thank Yvonne Majors for bringing in approximately 200 men’s ties for
decorating next Father’s Day. This is a good time to thank Linda for her
year-round search to find all of the wonderful decorations for every holiday.
We love you, Linda. She has a sweet fixture in the library for “readable”
children’s books. They work best when used while having a kid seated on
your lap!

fixed us a variety of pizzas
for our July 17 lunch. We
had all kinds to choose
from; mine was the
pepperoni. We also had a
nice green salad to go with
the pizza and apple crisp for
our dessert. We appreciate
and thank our cooks.
We had Jimmy Cole, Linda Blakeslee and Kristi Guimont as our greeters.
Kristi led us in the flag salute. Yours truly made the announcements and
prayed the blessing over our meal.
We had a smaller crowd of 43 guests on the books and six takeouts. Our
winners for the free meal tickets were Juuna Watkins of Kimberly and Karen
Stubblefield. Pam Callahan was the lucky winner for the Lens Drug gift card.
A shout of thank you to all our sponsors for their generous support for our
communities.
Please take note that the foot doctor, aka Krista, will not be available for the
foot clinic until further notice. She is out of commission at the moment due to
an injury to her shoulder. We pray that she will heal and fully recover her
mobility to her shoulder quickly.
Our own Molly Hoodenpyl will be home for a bit after graduating from the
Marines boot camp. We are so proud of her and thank her for her service to
Church; Sherrie Feiger, Delores Belden, Louise Nelson, Margie Conlee
and Jean Willey. They served us well, as always.
Jean Willey led us in a rousing Pledge of Allegience. Deda Porter won the
Chester’s Thriftway gift certificate and Jean won the two free meals.
Sherrie Feiger’s devotional and blessing is always inspirational for me. I
have learned to listen carefully.
We had 43 diners who enjoyed beefy mac, peas and carrots, spinach salad
with blueberries, dinner rolls and Lisa’s apple cobbler. It was all delicious,
and I ate way too much. This meal was sponsored by the Seventh
Adventist Church, and we thank you.
Wednesday from 10:30 til Noon is the free talk at the fairgrounds, brought
to us by AARP, about how to protect ourselves against fraud. I hear there
will be a hospitality table. That is always a treat.
Thank you to Judy Nelson, the angel who makes our bingo goodies her
ministry, who made a run to Costco. Thank you so much, Judy. Bingo
every Thursday at 1 p.m., right after lunch. Even if you don’t win, you’ll
have great snacks.
We are still on vacation from tai chi, hoping to have a new leader soon.
Keep practicing, and be sure to do your shaking. Just keep moving with
purpose and don’t do more than 70 percent.
Matthew 6:25-34 NIV “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. So do
not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
itself.”
our country and may the Lord be with her and protect her.
All is pretty quiet in Monument. I am so thankful that the smoke from the
fires all around us have been pretty minimal. We pray that the Lord would
protect all the firefighters and volunteers and keep them safe and help
them in fighting the fires and protecting people and their homes.
We’ve been having major issues with yellow jackets, hornets, and wasps.
Looks like they are just desperate for water and food. I feel like they are
just invading us and are everywhere. My hubby had to remove ten nests.
He got stung once and thank goodness it wasn’t too serious. We ran out of
the spray to clear the nests and had to get more. He even found some nests
in the door jams of our old truck!
Two other pests that we’ve had a major invasion of are the earwigs and
grasshoppers. I was told put out a can of olive oil for the earwigs to fall in
and drown. I will definitely try that. They are just obnoxious pests.
They’ve been eating the leaves of my potato plants, grrrrrr.
I separated the baby goats Bonnie and Pherb from their mamas. Pherb, the
little pig, was still nursing on Jill. Dolly somehow managed to find a hole
in the fence and walked back to the goat pen and surprised me when I
turned around from coming out of the goat pen. So, I had to put her back
in. I moved Dolly and Bonnie to up by the house to munch down some
weeds. I hope they will chow down and eat it all up.
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by
the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
