‘Cars for a Cause’ show to shine at Grant County fairgrounds
By Angel Carpenter
Blue Mountain Eagle
Vehicles, from classic to
4x4 to newer sports models,
will shine at the “Cars for a
Cause” car show from 11 a.m.
to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at
the Grant County Fairgrounds
in John Day.
Admission for spectators
is $5, and the vehicle entry
fee is $15. Vehicles will be
displayed on the grassy area
of the fairgrounds.
Grant Union student McK-
eely Miller, who will be a se-
nior next fall, is organizing
the event and said the pro-
ceeds will support two good
causes.
Half of the profits will ben-
efit Blue Mountain Hospital
gas cards for cancer patients
who need to drive to Bend or
Boise, Idaho, for treatments,
and the other half will go to
BrightSide Animal Center in
Redmond, a nonprofit com-
munity shelter for dogs and
cats that prioritizes saving the
animals.
“The donations are very
meaningful to me because of
my family’s experience with
cancer; traveling for treatment
can get quite expensive,” Mill-
er said.
She added, “Animal shel-
ters work very hard to rescue
and find wonderful homes for
animals, so I would like to sup-
port that as well.”
Some of Miller’s family
members plan to bring vehi-
cles, and she has also invit-
ed local and neighboring car
clubs to join the cause.
Her father, Jason Miller, is
entering his rebuilt Bronco,
her grandfather has a recently
purchased 2017 Corvette and
an uncle will bring a BMW.
She contacted the Grant
County Kruzers as well as a
Porsche club and Corvette
club in Bend.
Miller said a first-place
trophy will be awarded for
vehicles in four categories, in-
cluding foreign luxury, sports
car/muscle car, 4x4 and classic/
antique.
“I think it will be a lot of fun
for people to come out and sup-
port,” she said.
