Dayville School receives $45,000 in facilities planning grants

some interest in (the commu-
nity’s) participation,” she said,
adding that feedback is “abso-
lutely critical” for long-term
planning.
Hedrick said this facilities
planning process would help
inform the board whether to
pursue a facilities bond to qual-
ify for matching funding from
the state for school improve-
ments.
The soonest the district
might pursue a bond would be

she said, noting the process
was “completely exploratory”
at this point with no decisions
made.
“That’s a process our board
chair would pursue,” she said.
In a separate project unre-
lated to the facilities planning,
Hedrick said the district will be
replacing concrete and chang-
ing the school entrance this
summer.

Facilities at Dayville School
may be getting an upgrade.
Dayville School District
recently received two Oregon
Department of Education tech-
nical assistance grants totaling
$45,000 to assess facilities and
complete long-term facilities
planning, Superintendent Kath-
ryn Hedrick said.
In the first phase, an archi-
tect will determine structural
repair needs, and in the second
phase, the school board is en-
couraging community mem-
bers to help create a vision for
the future of the school, she
said.

Circuit Court
Nicky J. Ballou, 41, John
Day, pleaded guilty to being
a felon in possession of a
firearm committed on March
1. This was a probation vi-
olation for a 2016 sentence
for being a felon in posses-
sion of a restricted weapon
and a 2017 sentence for
third-degree theft. A charge
of unlawful possession of
a firearm was dismissed.
Ballou was sentenced to 50
days in jail, 36 months pro-
bation, 80 hours of com-
munity service and $350 in
fines and fees.
Aaron M. Roseberry, 31,
Canyon City, pleaded guilty
to felony possession of
methamphetamine commit-
ted on April 28. This was
a probation violation for a
2017 sentence for harass-
ment and attempt to com-
mit a Class A misdemeanor.
A charge of frequenting a
place where a controlled
substance is used was dis-
missed. Roseberry was sen-
tenced to 20 days in jail, 18
months probation, 80 hours
of community service and
$525 in fines and fees. His
driver’s license was sus-
pended for six months.
Jessica L. Officer, 30,
John Day, pleaded guilty
to one count of recklessly
endangering another per-
son and one count of point-
ing a firearm at another
person committed on May
2. Charges of attempting
to commit a Class C fel-
ony and menacing were
dismissed. She was sen-
tenced to 30 days in jail, 24
months probation, 50 hours
of community service and
$200 in fines and fees.
Bryan P. Martin, 40,
Prairie City, was found
guilty of being in posses-
sion of intoxicants, which
was in violation of proba-
tion conditions for his 2016
sentence for DUII. He was
sentenced to an additional
10 hours of community ser-
vice.
Jeremiah O. Gwalthney,
40, John Day, was found
guilty of failure to com-
plete treatment and failure
to pay, which were condi-
tions of his 2016 sentence
for DUII and driving unin-
sured. His probation condi-
tions were extended for 12
months, and he was ordered
to pay $75 in fees.
