Grant Union Prospector Mariah Moulton pitches in game one against the Enterprise/
Joseph/Wallowa Cubs Friday in John Day, Whitney McClellan covering second base.
Wright followed up with a solo
home run for a 1-run lead in
the bottom of the fourth, and
the team held on for the win.
The Grant Union girls kept
a lid on their opponents in
game two from the start.
The Prospectors loaded the
bases when Wright hit a single,
Brianna Zweygardt was hit by
a pitch and Cody Jo Madden
was walked.
Allen then sent the ball over
the center field fence for the
grand slam and Grant Union’s
first points of the game.
The Cubs only scored off a
solo home run in the top of the
fourth.
The Prospectors had a 6-0
loss to 2A/1A Union/Cove
(ranked No. 5) Wednesday on
the road.
Grant Union defeated 3A
Echo/Stanfield
(previously
ranked No. 11) 16-0 in Echo
on Saturday in nonleague
play.
“I’m excited about the way
the girls are playing,” said
Grant Union head coach Zach
Williams. “It’s good to be hit-
ting well going into the play-
offs — pitchers are throwing
well and we’re playing good
defense. That’s why we sched-
uled the Echo game, so we
could play a good team and get
ready for the playoffs.”
After Friday’s 9-7 win over
the Cubs, Prospector Reagan
Shelley said their team came
out with a desire to hit well.
“At practice we worked on
it a lot, and it showed at the
plate today,” she said.
“Moving on to playoffs is
super exciting, and it’ll defi-
nitely be a great way to end
our senior year,” said team-
mate Tressa Ranft.
Madden said the team has
been playing well together.
“I think staying up in games
like these is what will get us
wins in post season,” she said.

Grant County Chamber
Monthly Newsletter
Hello Grant County,
Are you ready for some great weather and a lot of
exciting and fun things to do? Well, you’re in luck!
You live in Grant County, and that is just what
you’re going to get!
May is what we at the Chamber call the “official”
start of our tourist season. We say this because all
of our museums open in May and they are
something that our tourists seem to be very
interested in seeing. They are interested in many
other things as well like hiking, fishing and fun
events.
So, you can be sure we are going to tell them
about the Seneca Oyster Feed coming up on May
19th! As usual, they are planning a great event with
lots of fresh oysters, hamburgers for the non-oyster
lovers, a Beer Garden, Golf Scramble, Softball
Tournament, and Live Music! Everything starts at
noon.
Tourist season also means that we will see a LOT
of bicycles and motorcycles on our roads and
highways.
Here at the Chamber we are working on a plan to
implement communication and collaboration
between cyclists and motorists to insure they both
can travel safely throughout Grant County and the
rest of Oregon.
Travel Oregon in coordination with Eastern Oregon
Visitors Association will be holding Regional
Cycling Convening I at the Silvies Valley Ranch
Retreat on Wednesday, May 30th from 10:00 AM to
3:00. Scott Bickler, Director of Product
Development, and Stephen Hatfield, Outdoor
Recreation Specialist, from Travel Oregon will be
facilitating the meeting along with technical expert
Chris Bernhardt of C2 Consulting.
The monthly Chamber business meeting will be
held Thursday, May 17th at 10:30 at the Chamber
office. The meeting is open to everybody. The
monthly no-host luncheon will follow at 12:00 PM
at the Outpost restaurant. This month’s Guest
Speaker will be Mindy Winegar, Grant County Fair
Manager. Again, everyone is welcome and
encouraged to come!
The Chamber would like to welcome Up, Up, and
Away from Burns as our newest Chamber member.
They make balloon bouquets and their Grand
Opening is this Saturday from 10:30 to 2:00 PM.
If you would like to join the Chamber, we would
love to have you give us a call or stop by our office!
Before I close, I’d like to give a shout-out to our
awesome volunteers; they do a fantastic job for us
at the Chamber! They are: Dorman Gregory,
Karen Jacobs, Sherry Feiger, Larry Christensen,
Nicki Cohoe, Elaine Husted, Pam Durr and Suzette
Decew.
Enjoy the nice weather and plan to come to our
meeting this Thursday!

What I like best about my sport:
“I like the individual basis of it. It’s definitely
different — everybody is there to help each
other, so it’s just a good community, even with
people you’re jumping against. It’s all around
fun, and there are so many different
events you can do.”
Coach’s Comment: “Levi is a team
leader. He leads by example and
hard work. He has a smile on his
face, and he competes.”

Linda Studtmann said, “They
tried their best, and they did
well.”
Pesic placed third in jave-
lin with a mark of 125-05, and
he set a personal record in the
100-meter dash with a time of
12.22, placing ninth out of 25
sprinters.
James Kreamier had his
personal best performance in
long jump with a mark of 17-
08.50, and on the girls side,
Lucchese Douglas set a per-
sonal record in the 400 with
fifth place.
“We had several PRs,” she
said. “I think they were very
competitive in this year’s
districts. Looking at where
they were when they started,
they’ve come a long way and
done well.”
Prairie City head coach
Nate Barber said he’d hoped
to bring more athletes to the
state championships, but
some fell just short of the cut,
as only the top two finishers in
events qualify.
Burke, a junior, earned
second in the high jump, and
Camarena, a senior, who fin-
ished fourth in shot put, re-
ceived a wild card.
“I am happy for Levi and
Megan that they get to go,”
Barber said. “They both have
an opportunity to do very
well. Levi has the ability to
win it all.”
