The Grant Union Pros-

their first trip to state in four
years at the May 7-8 Special

at the Pendleton Country
Club.
The team shot a 750 for
second place out of eight
3A/2A/1A teams, edged out
by Heppner which placed
first with 713.
“I’m extremely proud of
the kids,” said Grant Union
head coach Ron Lundbom.
“They are extremely excited
to go to state.”
He said the playing con-
ditions were “perfect” with
80-degree weather and light
wind.
Burns placed third with
759, and Echo placed fourth
with 803, after breaking a tie
with Imbler.
The top individual boys
qualifying for state were Ri-

of Imbler (163) in second,

Although 13 qualified for
state, only 12 athletes will
travel there after senior Jozie
Rude suffered a season-ending
injury at districts. This would
have been Rude’s fourth time

she placed second in jave-
lin, third in shot put and pole
vault and eighth in discus last
year.
At the district meet, she
placed first in shot put and
first in pole vault before be-

discus and javelin events.
Five girls added events,
helping the team win the ti-
tle.
Running double distance
events were Rhea Mead,
Savannah Wyllie, Sammi
Buckhaults and Ellie Justice.
Alcie Moore also placed
in two jumping events, af-
ter only practicing for one
week.
Other remarkable perfor-
mances came from the boys.

ed sixth in the 800, but ran
the race in the lead until the
