Thanks to the Grant County Court and Northeast Oregon Forests Resource
Advisory Committee, Grant Weed Control is able to offer a 25% Cost
share program for Noxious Weed Control on Private Grazing Lands,
through a Title II funded Grant Project. This program will provide a
maximum $5,000 of noxious weed control services with a $1,250 maximum
landowner contribution to qualifying participants. To be eligible for
participation, the treatment property must not be actively irrigated and must
be primarily managed for livestock grazing, minimum of 20 acres in size,
located within Grant County, and must contain priority noxious weed
species. Applications for this limited weed control assistance opportunity
will be ranked and funded according to a priority noxious weed list..

the playoff may be held in
John Day.

Three local teams
take fast lane at
Condon/Wheeler
Invite
Taking on the 100- and
200-meter runs for 1A Prai-
rie City, Abbey Pfefferkorn
placed fourth and third, re-
spectively, for the girls, and
Tristan McMahan placed
fifth and third in the events
for the boys. Both set per-
sonal records in those events
at Friday’s Condon/Wheeler
Invite.
McMahan also finished
second in the triple jump,
and Pfefferkorn placed third
in the 4x100 with teammates
Hailee Wall, Rilee Emmel
and Emily Ennis.
“It was nice to see all the
sprinters do so well,” Prairie
City head coach Nate Bar-
ber said of his athletes. “The
weather cooperated, so that
was nice.”
The meet included 14
teams from Oregon and
Washington, including 2A
and 3A schools.
“It was good to see
new competition,” Barber
said. “The girls were really
strong.”
The Prairie City girls had
a fourth-place finish out of
teams.
Prairie City is scheduled
to compete at the Saint Al-
phonsus Invitational at 11
a.m. (MT) in Ontario on Sat-
urday.

competing in Condon placed
fourth out of 13 teams.
Several boys set personal
records, including Luka Pesic
placing fourth in the 100 and
third in the long jump.
Rafael Gumerato set a per-
sonal record and placed third
in the 200 and third in the 400.
Jaime Ballesteros also
went the distance in the 400
for sixth and 300 hurdles for
fourth, setting personal re-
cords.
James Kreamier leaped to
second place in the long jump
and set a personal record in
the high jump with fourth
place.
For the Long Creek girls,
Dorotha Johnson competed
for sixth in the long jump out
of 13 athletes.
The 1A Monument/Day-
ville boys team added JT
Hand to their roster at the
Condon/Wheeler meet. He
placed fourth in long jump out
of 15 athletes.
Gabe Walker pushed the
limits, placing eighth out of
21 in the 100, setting a per-
sonal record. He also placed
third in the 300 hurdles.
Austin Walker, also new to
the roster, set personal records
in all of his events, the 100,
shot put and javelin.
The 2A Grant Union Pros-
pector track and field girls led a
pack of 20 teams at the 12th An-
nual Pepsi Invitational in Union.
Prospector Jozie Rude
scored the most points for the
girls with 34, placing first in dis-
cus with a season record, second
in javelin with a season record,
first in shot put and third in pole
vault. Also setting personal re-
cords were Sierra Cates in the
200 and Alcie Moore in the 400.
“Our 4x100 relay dropped
their time and is still seeded
first in state for 2A,” said Grant
Union head coach Sonna Smith.
“This was a great meet for both
teams. We were able to see ev-
eryone in our district, along
with some great competition 1A
through 4A.”
She added, “We have two
more meets and then district, so
we’re starting to fine tune events
for all athletes.”
On the boys side, Duane
Stokes set a personal record in
the triple jump with a mark of
40.05. Drew Lusco set a per-
sonal record and placed sixth
in shot put.
