the Tigers leading.
Twehues answered back
with a 3-pointer.
With 3:45 left in the game,
the scoring went back and
forth.
Tiger Danielle Rhoda went
2-2 at the free-throw line for a
36-32 lead in the final minute.
Moore scored twice to tie
it 36-36.
With just 10 seconds to go,
Twehues and Emerson each
sank a free-throw shot to give
the Tigers the 2-point victory.
Grant Union junior varsity
coach Kristi Moore said her
girls played aggressively and
never gave up.
“It was a good learning les-
son for us to play hard from
second one,” she said.
Moore said when they re-
grouped at halftime, she told
the girls, “Let’s play our game
and play aggressively and at-
tack.”
“The Monument/Dayville
team had great hands and were
aggressive to get the ball,” she
said. “They made us work for
it, and we look forward to a re-
match.”
Tiger head coach Taylor
Schmadeka said he was pleased
with his team’s improvement
boxing out their opponents and
that the girls didn’t hang their
heads when they made mis-
takes.
“They were more aggres-
sive on offense and the defen-
sive side,” he said. “At the very
end, we found a way to win.”
He added, “I was proud of a
couple of the girls for making
the free throws at the end when
they mattered.”
Emerson, who led her team
in scoring with 13, said that af-
ter two league losses their team
came together.
Schafer agreed it was their
togetherness that pushed them
past the tie for the win.
As the Tigers move for-
ward, Schafer said she expects
to see “growth of the team and
our chemistry, working the ball
down low and hopefully fast-
er.”
The Tigers hosted Ukiah/
Long Creek in Dayville Tues-
day, past press time.
The team hosts Adrian at 6

ready,” he said.
He added they knew Elgin
had beat some good teams.
The Huskies had an 8-6 over-

Prairie City boys
on 6-game win
streak
After two road wins last
week, the Prairie City Pan-
ther boys are on a six-win
roll.
The Panthers are 11-3
overall with a 3-0 league re-
cord, and they’re ranked No.
10 among 1A OSAA teams.
Prairie City had a 73-70
victory over the Crane Mus-
tangs on Friday and beat
Harper 80-50 on Saturday.
Panther senior Dorran
Wilson led the way against
Crane, scoring 32 points
for the Panthers, followed
by Levi Burke with 29. Syd
Holman and Lucas McKin-
ley each had 5 points and
Jojari Field had 2 at the free-
throw line.
The Panthers cruised to a
30-point win in Harper, and
Workman said he played
several of his younger ath-
letes.
Prairie City hosted the
Burnt River Bulls on Tues-
day past press time. Looking
ahead, the coach said Adrian
defeated Crane this week-
end, so he expects their game
with them Saturday to be a
tough one. The game starts
at 4:30 p.m. (MT) in Adrian.
Lady Panthers
split wins on
the road
The Prairie City girls
found some competition in
the Mustangs on the road to
Crane where the Lady Pan-
thers, now 7-6 overall and
2-1 in the 1A High Desert
League, had a 34-24 loss.
They turned it around for a
67-23 win in Harper (5-6,
1-2), facing the Hornets.
The Panthers toppled
Harper with a 44-point win
OSAA’s 2A teams.
Commenting on the win
over Union, Wright said his
team was on fire and ready for
battle.
“We have always struggled
in that gym,” he said. “We
started out with an 11-0 run.
Then they called a time out.
All of my boys were ready to
go to work. They all played
really well with excellent
team ball.”
after leading 38-13 at the
half.
Prairie City hosted the
Burnt River Bulls on Tuesday
past press time. They’re on
the road to Adrian (6-6, 2-2)

“We lost the last over-
time to Lakeview, so I
didn’t want to lose again,”
he said.
Grant Union junior var-

ley credited his team for a
game well played, noting
they still have “quite a few
things to work on.”
“The overtime peri-
od brought some anxiety,
which increased the inten-
sity, which helped us fin-
ish it off,” he said, adding,
“Jordan Hall had a great
overtime period and used
that excitement to get some
steals, which led to some
transition baskets.”
Coach Josh Williams
