Bogen served in the Merchant Marine and Army Air Corps and worked as a logger, skydiving instructor, cargo plane loadmaster and a preacher. He was a preacher at the United Methodist Church in John Day in the 1980s. A memorial service was held at 12 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2055 S. Am- mon Road in Ammon. Renshaw was born Aug. 1, 1957, in Juneau, Alaska, to John Sherman Tanner and Hazel Luella (Reisewitz) Tanner. She lived in John Day a total of five years, moving to Ammon in October of this year. She enjoyed writing, crocheting, singing and helping others. Renshaw is preceded in death by her sisters Dawn Pendlebury, Joy Bearman and Janet League; and brother John Tanner. She is survived by her daughter Emma (Nick) Povey of Am- mon, Idaho; and sisters Marion “Mae” Tanner of John Day, Judy (Howard) Gibson of Payson, Utah, and Lizette (Tim) Hoffenreich and Nina Tanner of Kooskia, Idaho. Benjamin Franklin Ladd Jan. 12, 1932 - Dec. 12, 2017 Benjamin Franklin Ladd, 85, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. A graveside ser- vice was held Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Canyon City Cemetery. Ladd was born Jan. 12, 1932, to parents Joseph Karr and Maude Gay (Warner) Ladd in Ipava, Illinois. After graduating from Ipava High School, he attended Cal Poly in Pomona, California, graduating in 1963. He married Linda Casteel in Upland, California, Dec. 19, 1958. Ladd served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, earning the rank of technical sergeant, and served six more years with the Cal- ifornia Air National Guard. Ladd worked as a National Park Service ranger at Yellowstone and Glacier national parks before becoming the first superinten- dent of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in 1975. He earned many awards and letters of commendation for his work that was instrumental in developing the monument. He retired in 1993 and served as interim superintendent for Crater Lake National Park, retiring in 1994. He worked for the park service for 36 years. Ladd enjoyed gardening, fishing, sports and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ladd, of John Day; son Brad- ley H. Ladd of California; daughters Christy Waggoner of Prai- rie City and Mindy Ladd of Bend; granddaughters Sarah Cary Heitstuman of Clarkston, Washington, and Katie Ann Cary of La Grande; great-granddaughter Harper Lee Heitstuman of Clarkston; and brother James Ladd of Illinois. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Health- care Foundation.
