Grant County Senior Citizens Advisory
Council meeting
• 11 a.m, Prairie City Senior Center, 204 N. McHaley St.
The purpose of the semi-annual meeting is to introduce new
members of the council appointed by the Grant County Court
and entertain new business proposed by council members. The
public is welcome to attend.

Light Up a Life
• 6 p.m., Valley View Assisted Living, 112 Valley View
Drive, John Day
All are welcome to the candlelight remembrance, which
honors loved ones who have died. The service, organized by
Blue Mountain Hospice, includes readings, music and refresh-
ments. Donations are accepted at the door and help provide end
of life care for hospice patients. For more information, call Blue

A snowman Christmas party
• 2:30 p.m., Blue Mountain Care Center, Prairie City
The care center will host an afternoon of festivities for res-
idents, their families, and anyone else who wants to attend.
Snack food, non-alcoholic drinks, Santa and live music will be

Local author D.L. Jones will sign copies of his novel “Quin-

Christmas bird count
• 7 a.m., Outpost Restaurant, John Day
Participants in the 37th annual count will meet at 7 a.m. Par-
ticipants should dress warmly and be prepared for the weather.
Bring binoculars, field guide, lunch and beverages as most par-
ties will be out the full day. The compilation and monthly bird
club meeting will be at Cecil and Irene Gagnon’s home at 5:30

Community Christmas celebration
• 4:30 p.m., Dayville City Hall
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Christmas season. Re-
freshments will be served and the winners of the 2017 Christ-
mas decorating contest will be announced.
Members of American Legion Post 77 led a flag
ceremony during last year’s Light up a Life service. The
service this year is planned for Thursday, Dec. 14.

Antone Christmas bird count
• 8 a.m., Thomas Condon Visitor Center, Highway 19, two
miles north of the junction with Highway 26
Joel Geier will be conducting a bird count centered on the
John Day Fossil Beds. The compilation will take place after

Christmas dinner
• 12:30 p.m., John Day Senior Center
Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer and his wife, RoseAnn,
will host their annual Christmas dinner of turkey, ham, mashed
potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls and stuffing. Coffee, tea, hot
chocolate and punch will also be provided.

Grant County students will share the
excitement of the season as they per-
form in an array of Christmas programs,
concerts and a talent show this month.
The fun starts at 7 p.m. Wednes-
day, Dec. 13, with the Grant Union Ju-
nior-Senior High School holiday con-
cert in the Grant Union old gym. The
school’s junior and senior bands will
perform along with the combined ju-
nior-senior choir, which will sing their
signature “Carol of the Bells,” among
other selections.

19, at the Dayville School gym.
