Program Overview: The Grant County Library Foundation has been assisting
the Grant County Library for over 20 years. By working together, the
Foundation and Library have been able to improve library services in Grant
County through such activities as the addition of programs and expanding the
library collection to name a few. The Foundation is now moving forward with
plans to build a new, modern, ADA-accessible library for county residents.
Utilizing grants and local donations, the Foundation purchased the Blue
Mountain Junior High property to use as a site for a new library. After
receiving a $20,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation
participating funds, including the Shelk Fund, Ward Family Fund and Jerome S.
and Barbara Bischoff Library Subfund, the Library Foundation hired an
architect to produce a preliminary design for a new, energy efficient, low
maintenance building that will allow for more computers, special collections,
and meeting/classroom space. The preliminary design was completed in April
and the Foundation is now ready to proceed with a capital campaign to fund the
project.
Directors/Members: Megan Brandsma, president; Tracie Unterwegner,
secretary; Bonnie Britton, treasurer; and members Donna Johnston, Jim
Bahrenburg, and Ashley Armichardy.

Mission Statement: The Foundation supports the Grant County Library and
celebrates the joy of lifelong learning. We also work to promote public awareness
through fund raising events and actively participate in projects that expand and
improve library facilities.
Vision: The Foundation funds and supports projects that enhance our library’s
ability to meet evolving community needs. Our goals are:
• Fund and build a new, modern library for Grant County residents
• Improve and expand the current collection
• Better meet the information needs of rural Oregonians
• Improve access to the global community
• Support programs and trainings that encourage reading, learning, and sharing
Giving Opportunities: In our rural Oregon landscape, literacy and learning are
difficult to sustain without private contributions from people like you. We invite
you to help us keep these valuable public educational resources available to people
of all ages and abilities. The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is accepting
donations to fund the new library building as well as other library needs. Donations
can be made by mail or on our website. All donations are tax deductible.
Volunteer opportunities are also available to help with the capital campaign. If you
are interested in supporting the Grant County Library Foundation in any way,
please contact one of the board members for more information.
