early in the season, how it
will go.
“We’re excited to get go-
ing and see where we stand,”
he said. “We have kids excit-
ed for the season and chomp-
ing at the bit. It’s taken some
time to get a good program
together.”
Boethin said he enjoys the
team’s fun trips together.
“I like the hard work it
involves and all the funning
around we have,” he said.
Cameron Hallgarth is back
for a third year. An injury kept
him from wrestling last sea-
son.
“I’m glad to be a part of
the team with great coaches
and being able to have a fami-
ly, like football,” he said.
Carniglia, in his second
year, said he hopes everyone
makes it through without in-
juries and sticks with the pro-
gram.

dent about this year’s team.
“We’ve got a really good
group of heavy, middle
and lightweights,” he said.
“It’s great all around the
board.”
Coach Lusco said right
now the team is working on
fundamentals, drilling skills
and conditioning as they
prepare for their first tourna-
ment.
“For us, it’s about learning
a few things, but doing them
exceptionally well,” he said.
“We’ve had a nice team for

What I like best about my sport: “I like that
it is a team sport, and you have to work
together to win. This year my team did a really
good job of getting along and working our
hardest to win. We made it really far, and I am
proud of everything we have accomplished.”
Coach’s Comment: “Brianna has
been our main setter for four years
now and has worked very hard in
that position. She is a natural
leader and pushes herself to be
better every day.”

Prairie City Panther Syd Holman shoots in last week’s practice while Levi Burke
attempts to block.
Workman said he’s looking
for Camarena and junior Ha-
ley Pfefferkorn to step into
bigger roles on the team this
season.
“I’m expecting a lot from
my freshmen and soph-
omores,” Workman said.
“We’re going to be a young
team.”
He added the three fresh-
men are on the right track.
“I want them to learn
from the seniors,” he said.
“Overall, they have a desire
to be here and want to work
hard.”
Paige Moore, who had
an injury, will be this year’s
team manager.
The Panthers placed
fourth in last season’s High
Desert District Tourna-
ment, one place short of
continuing on to the state
playoffs.
They first beat Monu-
ment/Dayville 44-30 in the
quarterfinals, then took a
68-20 loss to Adrian in the
semifinals.
Jordan Valley beat Prai-
rie City in a close 54-47
match for third place.
In
the
champion-
ship game, No. 2-seeded
Crane beat No. 1-seeded
Adrian.
This season, Prairie
City will face Crane, Adri-
an, Jordan Valley, Mon-
ument/Dayville,
Harp-
er, Huntington and Burnt
River.
Workman said he expects
Crane, Adrian and Jordan
Valley to again be their
greatest challengers.
“They’re tough teams
every year, but I think we
can be in the middle of it, if
we prepare ourselves right,”
he said.

Prairie City Panther Katie Hire moves past Emily Ennis at
the team’s Nov. 16 practice.
The Eagle/Angel Carpenter
Prairie City Panther Brianna Zweygardt dribbles the ball
past Aleah Johns in the team’s Nov. 16 practice. Also in
the action, in back, are Cassie Hire, left, and Samantha
Workman.
