the Mt. Vernon Grange and
the Mt. Vernon Community

Shannon Winegar, who

including the Grant County
Fair royalty, Mt. Vernon
fi refi ghters fundraiser, a
Christmas dinner, 4-H kids
and more.
“It’s a good time for peo-
ple to get together,” Winegar
said. “We’re trying to keep it
homemade and support our
local crafts people.”
She said 24 vendors
signed up, offering cro-
cheted hats, jewelry, holiday
centerpieces,
homemade
Christmas stockings and
more.
Bonnie Cearns organized
the bazaar at the commu-
nity center to support the
fi refi ghters’ fundraiser for
Christmas food baskets they
give to the elderly each year.
Besides the array of
handcrafted wares fi lling
the center, which includ-
ed “quillows,” homemade
gourmet treats, and holiday
decor, there were raffl e tick-
ets and a fi reman’s boot for
donations.

Dorothy W. Bishop
Oct. 7, 1928 - Nov. 3, 2017
Dorothy Wayne Bishop, former-
ly of Turner, died Friday, Nov. 3, in
Prairie City, with her family at her
side. A celebration of life was held
Friday, Nov. 10, at the Jefferson Unit-
ed Methodist Church in Jefferson,
followed by a graveside service at the
Jefferson Cemetery.
Bishop was born prematurely
Oct. 7, 1928, in Antlers, Oklahoma,
to Chester and Flossie Carter. She
came to Oregon in 1947. She married Joe Bishop on June
27, 1948, in Albany. After marriage, she was happy being
a housewife and raising children. She lived in Prairie City
the last 12 years with her daughter Joanna and son-in-law
Jim.
The couple had three children, Joanna White, Otis
Bishop (deceased) and Wayland Bishop (deceased), and
grandson Curtis Bishop, who was raised as their son. She had
seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren whom
she loved deeply.
Bishop had many talents and loved sewing, crafting, gar-
dening, canning fruits and vegetables, managing a walnut
orchard, setting up camps for her fishing and hunting family
and teaching Sunday school.
She loved her church. Her biggest gift was loving people.
She always had open arms and an open door. She could whip
up a meal for company anytime without notice.
Proverbs 31:28 befits her: “Her children raise up and call
her blessed; her husband also and he praises her.”
