Grant County Circuit Court
Jessica A. Shawn-Thomas, 34,
John Day, pleaded guilty Oct. 5 to
felony assault Sept. 2. She was
sentenced to 10 days in jail, 20
hours of community service and
two years of probation. She was
fi ned $100 and ordered to have no
offensive contact with the victim
or minor children.
Christopher Boyer, 28, John
Day, pleaded guilty Oct. 5 to mis-
demeanor assault July 28. He was
sentenced to 10 days in jail, 60
hours of community service and
two years of probation. He was
fi ned $200 and ordered to have no
contact with the two victims and
not to enter the Silver Spur restau-
rant in Mt. Vernon.
Aaron M. Roseberry, 30, Can-
yon City, pleaded guilty Sept. 28
to misdemeanor harassment and
assault constituting domestic vi-
olence on Aug. 18. He was sen-
tenced to 12 days in jail and two
years of probation. He was fi ned
$300 and ordered to have no of-
fensive contact with the victim.
Dora M. Wadly, 27, John Day,
pleaded guilty Oct. 5 to misde-
meanor harassment. In a 180-day
diversion agreement, she was
ordered to complete 30 hours of
community service, pay a $100
fi ne and have no contact with the
victim.
Grant County Sheriff
The Grant County Sheriff’s
Offi ce is seeking the public’s help
in locating a yellow Caterpillar
257B skid steer reportedly stolen
from the Granite area. It was last
seen on or about Oct. 5. Green
stickers on the upper lift arms
state the owner’s name, Kelly
Corp. Anyone with information is
asked to contact Deputy Brandon

O BITUARIES
Dale Loran Rininger
Dale Loran Rininger was
a loving husband of 44 years
to Sherrie Rininger, father to
two sons, Tyson and Bryan,
and grandfather to Vincent
and Engelica. He passed
away at his home on Octo-
ber 3.
He had served as a Corps-
man in the US Navy for 20
years before continuing his
education receiving an MBA in Health Care Man-
agement. From there he worked to revitalize and
streamline numerous hospitals and clinics through-
out the western United States.
Choosing to retire in John Day, Oregon, he
and his wife opened a boutique craft shop named,
‘etc.’, showcasing the talented artists of Grant
County.
He was a husband and father who always put
his wife and children first. He knew how to em-
barrass his children with a smile and insult his
friends with class. He was the epitome of a Mason,
dropping everything to help a stranger. He was a
member of the Elks and a CASA volunteer. He was
what everyone would want in a husband, father,
grandfather.

Math Frederick ‘Fred’ Hanson
May 22, 1923-Sept. 30, 2017
Math Frederick “Fred” Hanson, 94, of Prineville,
Ore., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.
There was a viewing at 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6,
at Whispering Pines Funeral Home, 3168 NE Third
St., Prineville. A funeral service was held at 10
a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the First Assembly of God
Church. 835 S Main St., Prineville, with a graveside
burial at Juniper Haven Cemetery, 1555 N Main St.,
Prineville.
Following the burial there was a reception in
the Fireside Room at the First Assembly of God church. Pastor Larry
McGarry offi ciated.
Fred was born May 22, 1923, to Hans and Edith (Anderson) Hanson in
Long Creek, Oregon, on a ranch that was homesteaded by his parents, who
came from Denmark. He was the youngest of three children and the only
one that lived. Fred and his father became partners on the ranch until his
dad’s passing in 1973. During that time, they raised numerous cattle and
sheep. Fred was not fond of the sheep. He always said that was his dad’s
preference, and he preferred the cattle.
He was married to Velma “June” Best for 52 years and together they had
four children. They began their lives together on the Fox Ranch, moving
later to a ranch in Mitchell, then on to Unity and John Day area. After re-
tirement, they purchased a home in Prineville.
After the passing of his wife June, Fred was fortunate to meet a wonder-
ful lady, Mary Ann Tooley. Mary Ann and her family became an important
part of his life. For 10 years they were great companions. They enjoyed
taking trips and spending time together until her passing.
He enjoyed working on the ranch, fi shing, reading, playing pinochle, at-
tending church at the First Assembly of God, spending time with his fam-
ily and friends. Fred loved and lived life to the fullest and was known for
his contagious smile, kindness, sweet spirit, integrity, honesty and work
ethic. He was an amazing man and loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Edith Hanson, his
wife, June Hanson, and his son, Wayne Hanson.
Survivors include his daughter Marla and (Bill) Nash of Beaverton,
Oregon, daughter Sue and (Don) Page of Prineville, son Jeff and (Brenda)
Hanson of Twin Falls, Idaho, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchil-
dren.

Carl Lester Sheppard
May 31, 1946-Oct. 1, 2017
Carl Lester Sheppard of Prairie
City, Oregon., passed away at his
home on Oct. 1, 2017.
He was born on May 31,1946 to
LaVera and Fred Sheppard. He was
raised in the Ontario/Weiser/Vale
Country with his two brothers, Roy
and Randy Sheppard, and one sister
Leona Dotson.
He married his fi rst wife and ad-
opted her daughter, Wendi Leeper.
Together they had two sons, Darryl McKenzy Smith Shep-
pard and Gene Sheppard. They moved to Prairie City and
LaVera and new husband Walter Clark followed soon after.
Carl worked on various ranches and for the Forest Ser-
vice. After getting divorced he married his current wife,
Gale Sheppard of 38 years. Together they had two daugh-
ters, Pamela Woodworth of Prairie City and Ann Marino of
Redmond, Oregon.
Carl worked for the Forest Service for 30 years and re-
tired to start working for the Confederated Tribes which he
did for six years. His true loves were hunting, fi shing and
ranching.
Carl is survived by his mother LaVera Clark, wife Gale
Sheppard, two brothers Roy and Randy Sheppard, sister Le-
ona Dotson as well has his fi ve children, several grandchil-
dren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life dinner was held on Oct. 7,2017.
Contributions can be made in Carl’s Name to the Grant
County 4-H program through the OSU Extension Offi ce.
Marilyn Cheadle
Marilyn Cheadle, 81, of Prineville, formerly of Mt.
Vernon and John Day area, passed away on Friday, Octo-
ber 6, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday,
October 14, 2017 at the Living Waters Church, 521 NW
5th Street in Prineville at 2 p.m. Pastor Doug Shrock will
