The Prairie City Panther
volleyball team was on the
road Friday to Hunting-
ton where they claimed the
sweep with scores of 25-3,
25-13 and 25-5.
It was a slower pace for
Prairie City, but the Panthers
kept energized.
“Our team maintained a
high level of play on our side
of the net, focusing on tough
accurate serving, disciplined
coverage and an aggressive
smart attack on all balls
put into play,” said coach
Louanne Zweygardt.
Panther middle hitter
Cassie Hire said it was a
good win.
“I felt we kept our energy
up and pushed through, even
though they’re not as com-
petitive,” she said.
On Sept. 27, the Panther
varsity team met up with
Burns junior varsity at the
Hilanders’ court.
Prairie City won with
scores of 25-12, 25-10 and
25-10.

The Prairie City Pan-
ther football team trav-
eled Friday to face
the
Locomotives
in
Huntington.
Huntington claimed the
33-8 win.
The Locomotives were
first to score and led 13-0
in the first quarter.
Prairie City got on
the board in the sec-
ond when quarterback
Jayden Winegar connected
with Danner Davis for a
touchdown.
Panther Connor Jones
ran the ball in for the two-
point conversion.
Panther head coach
Nate Barber said they
are down players be-
cause of injuries and
ineligibilities.
“We have some strong,
steady players like Con-
nor Jones, Jake McHat-
ton and Lucas McKinley,”
Barber said. “Our defense
is getting better each
week.”
In junior varsity action on
Thursday, Prairie City Pan-
thers hosted the Long Creek/
Ukiah Mountaineers.
The Panthers took the
sweep with scores of 25-21,
25-18 and 25-18.
“Long Creek/Ukiah had
a great deal of hustle, keep-
ing a lot of balls in play and
giving our girls a fun chal-
lenge,” said Panther coach
Louanne Zweygardt. “Aries
Bice had six aces and Shae-
lynn Bice had five aces and
five kills.”
She added, “It is fun to
see the improvement in these
girls as the season goes on.”
Long Creek/Ukiah coach
Linda Studtmann, who
coaches with Reagan En-
riquez, said she’s seen steady
improvement from the team.
“It’s coming together,”
Studtmann said. “They’re
learning how to be a team,
working together, help-
ing and encouraging each
other.”
