What I like best about my sport: “I like the
pain. I like the hard work and getting to run with
my teammates.”
Coach’s Comment: “She
practices hard, races tough
and never complains. She has
shaved two minutes off her
time from our time trial a
month ago.”

“It’s for a good cause and
people support it,” she said.
Grant Union took the
sweep, winning both matches.
Against Enterprise, the
Prospectors won with scores
of 25-14, 25-8 and 25-20.
“We had a rough start, with
a few unforced errors, but we
were able to quickly regain
our focus and run our offense
more effectively,” Speth said.
The team had a total of 17
aces, and Moulton had a sea-
son high 17 kills, with nearly
six per set.
Taylor Allen had six aces.
Grant Union dominated
Elgin in the fi nal set 25-4 af-
ter beating them 25-14 and
25-15.
“A couple of our goals for
the day to improve on were
free ball conversions and fi rst
ball side outs,” Speth said.
“We continue to get better in
our serving percentage and
effectiveness, as well as our
serve-receive passing. We fo-
cus on the process of improv-
ing each day.”
She highlighted senior
Whitney McClellan’s im-
provement “in all aspects of
her game.”
“She reads opposing hit-
ters early, and makes strong
defensive moves,” Speth said.
Speth said the funds raised
from the event, which in-
cluded lunch and dinner, will
support the Blue Mountain
Hospital Foundation and the
Side-Out Foundation.
“I think it’s important for
the girls to be aware and give
back to the community,” she
said. “It’s great to have a great
turnout with the support.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 19,
Grant Union met up with the
Hilanders in Burns, winning
in three with scores of 26-24,
25-17 and 25-19.
Speth said the team has
been working to win the close
sets.
“Matches with Burns
are always tough,” she said.

in Saturday’s Dig Pink match against the Enterprise
Outlaws.
“There were several long
rallies, as both teams played
great defense. We had to
scramble quite a bit defen-
sively, but were generally
able to get quality swings in
transition.”
She said she was most
proud of their serving, acing
Burns 14 times.
“We passed at 94 percent
on serve-receive, which is in-
credible, as Burns is generally
a very tough serving team,”
she said.
It was Grant Union play-
er Hailie Wright’s fi rst match
back since injuring her shoul-
der a few weeks ago.
“She looks very strong at
setter,” Speth said.
McClellan had 19 digs,
Hailie Wright and Moulton
each had nine kills, Allen had
six aces and Kaylee Wright
had fi ve aces.
