Prairie City Lady
Panthers buzz
Hornets
Prairie City ended their
homecoming week on a posi-
tive note Friday, the Lady Pan-
thers volleyball team sweeping
the Hornets.
The Panthers won with
scores of 25-7, 25-13 and 25-8.
The event was also an op-
portunity for the team and spec-
tators to support local cancer
patients.
Prairie City senior play-
er Brianna Zweygardt raised
$1,500 in donations which will
give financial aid to cancer pa-
tients at Blue Mountain Hospi-
tal.
The fundraising effort was a
part of Brianna’s senior project.
“It was a challenging proj-
ect but worth it in the end,”
Brianna said. “I’m glad I am
able to support the financial aid
for cancer patients at the Blue
Mountain Hospital. I would
like to thank all the businesses
for their generous donations to
my raffle baskets, and all the
people who bought raffle tick-
ets and T-shirts.”
Prairie City coach Louanne
Zweygardt said the team’s
strong passing allowed them to
execute their attacks effective-
ly.
“Both the JV and varsi-
ty played very well, serving
strong and keeping the intensi-
ty up,” the coach said. “Hailee
Wall had six aces, and the team
as a whole aced at 33 percent
and had a 47 percent kill rate.”
The Panthers continued
their success the following day
at the Crane Tournament.
Prairie City beat Jordan
Valley 25-22 and 25-17 in the
semifinals.
The Panthers then fell to
Crane in the finals.
The first two sets were
close, Prairie City winning the
first 25-22 and Crane winning
the second 25-21. Crane won
the final set 15-9 for the tour-
nament title.
“The Crane tournament was
a good experience for us, play-
ing Jordan Valley for the first
time this season, and matching
up with Crane again,” the coach
said.
Prairie City had a 90 percent
serving rate against Jordan Val-
ley, with strong passing and a
29 percent rate killing the ball.
Zweygardt said their pass-
ing and serve-receive against
Crane wasn’t as successful, but

the team played the net well.
“Sierra Dahlen had five aces
out of 19 serves, and Brianna
had 10 kills,” Zweygardt said.
“We were pleased with how
hard the team worked and are
looking forward to meeting
Crane again.”
Prairie City, Jordan Valley
and Crane are in the High Des-
ert League; however, the tour-
nament games were considered
nonleague.
The Panthers are on the road
to Burns on Wednesday, facing
the Hilanders at 4 p.m. for ju-
nior varsity and varsity games.
Prairie City will host Long
Creek/Ukiah Thursday at 4:30
p.m. for a junior varsity match.
On Friday, the Panthers
travel to Huntington for junior
varsity and varsity matches,
starting at 2 p.m. PT, and Sat-
urday they travel to Monument
for matches starting at 2 p.m.

The Monument/Dayville Ti-
gers volleyball team was quick
on their toes, sweeping Mitch-
ell/Spray on Tuesday, Sept. 19,
in Spray.
The Tigers won with scores
of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-16.
Tiger head coach Kristi Em-
erson said after a slow start, the
team warmed up and played
well.
“Our girls had very good
serves,” she said. “They had
lots of good plays, and they
played the net very well.”
Monument/Dayville
traveled to the Crane Tour-
nament on Saturday where
they won two and lost two in
pool play.
North Lake won a cou-
ple tight sets over the Tigers in
bracket play, 27-25 and 25-17.
“We had a lot of fun,” Em-
erson said. “The girls learned a
lot, and we need to fix our mis-
takes.”
She noted they had some
trouble with serves and cover-
age.
“We’ll iron those out this
week,” she said.
The Tigers hosted Mitchell/
Spray in Dayville Tuesday, past
press time.
They host Condon/Wheeler
at 5 p.m. Friday in Dayville.
On Saturday, at the Mon-
ument court, the Tigers host
Prairie City at 2 p.m. and Burnt

TDs in loss to
Rattlers
The Monument/Dayville
Tiger eight-man football
team suffered a 60-16 loss
Thursday to Mitchell/Spray/
Wheeler, hosting the Rattlers
in Dayville.
Tiger head coach Na-
thaniel Ashley said his team
played well, but they need to
work on consistency and im-
proving tackling.
The Rattlers team, coached
by Jerry Anderson, includes
four seniors and eight juniors,
while the Tigers have four up-
perclassmen.
“We are a young team, so
we are learning a lot with each
game,” Ashley said. “We will
take what we learned from
that game and be better this
week against Harper.”
Monument/Dayville hosts
the Harper Hornets at 1 p.m.
Friday in Dayville.
