Truck causes transformer
to blow in Canyon City
Officials say
fire leaves
100 OTEC
customers in
the dark

Canyon City and John
Day firefighters respond-
ed to a blaze caused by a
blown transformer at 10:21
a.m. Tuesday in Canyon
City.
Three power poles were
snapped and power lines
were also down at Highway
395 South and on Bridge
Street.
The fire was extin-
guished within minutes of
firefighters’ response, and
was contained near the
transformer.
Officials said 100 OTEC
customers were without
power, and estimated power
would be restored by early
afternoon.
One witness reported
seeing a lowboy with a tall
load catch power lines as it
traveled south on the high-
way, and another witness
said he heard a loud explo-
sion and heard a semitruck
passing at the same
time.

and Oregon Department of
