Job Summary: The
VSO is responsible
for the overall
operation of the
department. Acts
as an advocate
responsible for
assisting veterans
in obtaining the
maximum amount
of VA benefits they
are entitled to under
federal and state
law. VSO holds
county authority in
knowledge of and
applying VA law,
federal regulations
and VA policies
for veterans’
benefits. The VSO
maintains an in-
depth knowledge
of veteran benefit
programs,
requirements for
eligibility and how,
and to whom, to
apply for these
programs. Meet
with veterans,
spouses of
veterans and other
dependents and
conduct interviews;
investigate
background facts
and identify what
documentation is
required; assist
claimants in filling
out forms to initiate
claims; follow up
claims with required
actions; prepare
reports to the
ODVA; administer
annual budget.
VSO is expected
to travel to outlying
areas to assist
veterans unable to
