our Grant County towns will show their
patriotic best as they host parades, con-
tests, car shows and fi reworks in celebra-
tion of the Independence Day.
Prairie City city recorder Taci Philbrook
said they have a couple new events this year.
“We’re asking everyone to wear a red hat
in support of the troops,” she said.
A red hat contest will be held at the city
park in the afternoon. Also new this year is
a log-sawing contest to be held near Prairie
Wood Products.
“We’re excited every year,” she said. “I
know that Prairie City is proud to be able to
host this event.”

Long Creek, Tuesday, July 4
The city of Long Creek will host its
Founder’s Day picnic at the city park at noon.
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided,
and attendees are asked to bring a salad or
dessert. A guest speaker will share the history
of the Keeney family who were early settlers
in Long Creek. The Keeneys were shopkeep-
ers and ranchers who donated land to the city,
which was known as the Keeney addition.

ing workshop

Grant County Older and Vulnerable Pop-
ulation Collaborative presents a workshop
for families and caregivers and families of
those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. “Posi-
tive Approaches to Dementia Care” will be
held in the morning at Valley View, and in
the afternoon at Blue Mountain Care Center.
“What to do When Nothing Works” will be
held in the morning at Blue Mountain Care
Center, and in the afternoon at Valley View.
