The Alzheimer’s Association Oregon Chapter will present
“The Basics + Effective Communication Strategies.” Informa-
tion covered includes detection, causes and risk factors, stages
of the disease and treatment, as well as how communication
takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learning to decode
the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with
dementia and identifying strategies to connect and communi-
cate at each stage of the disease. There is no cost, but registra-

’62 Days celebration
• Canyon City
The event, hosted by the Whiskey Gulch Gang, commemo-
rates the discovery of gold in Canyon City on June 8, 1862.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Miner’s Eclipse.”
Parade Grand Marshal is Sharon Livingston of Long Creek.
Activities include the parade, Gold Rush Run/Walk, an art
show, pie and ice cream social, kids games and contests, a
hanging reenactment and the Oregon State Fastdraw Cham-
pionship. F.C. Sels Brewery will feature live music Friday
and Saturday evenings. The 3.1-mile Gold Rush Run/Walk
will take place at 7 a.m. Saturday. Registration forms are
available from Grant County Chamber of Commerce. Par-
ticipants may also register just before the race, from 6-6:45
a.m. at the start/finish line in front of Sel’s. Registration

Second Saturday Gathering

Ladies of Grant County are invited to the Second Sat-
urday Gathering. This will be the last of a four-part series
on the components of the “Love Commandment,” focusing
on “all of our strength.” Kathy Rogers and Lis Davis will
present music at the no-host breakfast. Coffee and tea are com-
plimentary.

Farmers Market ‘Spring Festival’

The “Spring Festival” launches the eighth season of the
John Day Farmers Market. Weekly features include vendors
