An appetizer-making con- test with a green-colored theme was won by Michael Ashley, who made a pesto-spinach spread on sourdough bread, and Simon Graves won sec- ond place with salami-wrapped sweet pickles. There were 14 entries. For the balloon fundrais- er, attendees could purchase a balloon for $10 and each had a number inside, corresponding with one of 30 prizes donated by community businesses and individuals. A total of $400 was raised at the potluck which is a biannual event. “It was very fun and posi- tive with yummy food,” said Babette Larson who attended the potluck. “It’s a good way to support the community.” C ORRECTION An April 12 article about Farm to School funding in- cluded information about the local Farm to School Acade- my. ADVANTAGE DENTAL CLINICS Daniel ‘Buzz’ Walter Harris Nov. 24, 1929 - April 2, 2017 Daniel “Buzz” Walter Harris, 87, passed away Sunday, April 2, at his son’s home in Caldwell, Idaho, after a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 29, at the Prairie City Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Hoeffner offi ciating. A graveside committal will follow at the Prairie City Cemetery. A reception will be held after the conclusion of the ser- vice at the Prairie City Senior Center. Services are open to the public. Harris was born to Clarence and Hattie Harris Nov. 24, 1929, in Prairie City. He was born on the property where he lived most of his life, except nine months that he lived in New Mexico. He was the eighth of 10 children, and he and his brothers helped build the house where he lived. He attended the Prairie City Schools and graduated in 1949. Harris got his fi rst job away from home when he was 10 years old and earned 10 cents per day, plus an egg sandwich and a quart of milk. Additionally, he helped his dad and brothers in the family mechanics shop and learned many skills. He was involved in almost all aspects of the lumber industry from the time of his high school graduation. He built roads, skidded logs, worked in the mill, hauled lumber and moved heavy equipment, but most of his time was spent hauling logs. Because of his di- verse work background and skills, one of his bosses at Edward Hines Lumber Company told him they did not have a man at the company who could replace him for all of the different jobs he could do. He retired from logging in 1994 and then spent the next 14 years working for Wish Poultry and Mark Wishard in Prairie City. He married Marjorie M. Sager on June 27, 1959, at the Boi- se Valley Church of the Brethren in Nampa, Idaho. She passed away Nov. 2, 2011, after over 52 years of marriage. Harris loved fi shing, hunting, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Prairie Baptist Church. He and Marjorie enjoyed their many years helping with the Prairie City Senior Center, and Buzz was the vice-president of their council in recent years. Harris is survived by two sons, Thomas Harris of Boise, Ida- ho, and Jerry Harris and his wife, Camille, of Caldwell, Idaho; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Rob- ert, Frank and James Harris; fi ve sisters, Jessie Randolph, Allice Kight, Janette Deardorff, Clarice (Mickey) Plantz and Virginia (Ann) Cemelich; and four brothers-in-law.
