Jan. 31, 1957 - Feb. 22, 2017
Carl “Fred” Dupree, 75, of Day-
ville passed away Friday, Feb. 17, at
his home. A memorial service will
be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8,
at the South Fork RV Park in Day-
ville.
Dupree was born Feb. 9, 1942, to
Carl “Bud” Dupree and Violet Smith
in Yacolt, Washington. He attended
Hil Hi high school in Hillsboro, be-
fore serving in the Army from 1960
to 1963. He married Diane Garrison in Reno, Nevada, April
27, 1994. He spent a number of years working construction
as a pipe layer.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Garrison) Dupree of
Dayville; daughter, Traci Dupree of Tigard; daughter, Kim-
berly Dupree of Portland; son, Kelvin Dupree of Beaver-
ton; stepdaughter, Amy (White) Nilsen of Prince George,
Virginia; sister, Yvonne Waugh of The Dalles; sister, Peggy
Whitbey of Aloha; brother, Dennis Dupree of Dayville; for-
mer wife, Connie Dupree of Milwaukie; eight grandchil-
dren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, C. “Bud” Dupree;
mother, Violet (Smith) Dupree; and siblings Edna (Dupree)
Hand, Nancy (Dupree) Shallenberger and Donald Dupree.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of
one’s choice through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S.
Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845.
Cheryl Ann Breland, 60, of
Mt. Vernon passed away Wednes-
day, Feb. 22, at Conroe Regional
Medical Center in Conroe, Texas.
A graveside service will be held
at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the
Canyon City Cemetery, officiat-
ed by Pastor Sharon Miller of the
Living Word Christian Center in
Mt. Vernon.
Breland was born Jan. 31,
1957, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She attended Loranger
High School in Loranger, Louisiana. She then went on
to attend Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario,
graduating in 1982. She also worked for the Forest Ser-
vice in Sam Houston National Forest as an engineer for
18 years.
Breland enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, gardening
and walking her dog “Prissy.” She also was active with
the Church of The Nazarene in Conroe, Texas. One of her
fondest accomplishments were the roads and bridges she
engineered, so others could enjoy the national forests.
She is survived by her mother, Clara Cambre of Mt.
Vernon; brother, Buford Breland of Mt. Vernon; and half
brother, Billy Shannup of Fruitland, Idaho.
She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Omo-
hundro.

Genevieve ‘Joyce’ Fearrien
May 7, 1930 - Feb. 20, 2017
Longtime resident of Prineville
Genevieve “Joyce” Fearrien, 86,
passed away Monday, Feb. 20,
2017.
Fearrien was born to Thomas
and Lucille (Kennedy) Rickman
in Held, Oregon, May 7, 1930.
She graduated from Crook Coun-
ty High School and furthered her
education in nursing, graduating
with a bachelor’s degree from
Portland State University. She met and married Donald
Fearrien May 7, 1953, at the Powell Butte Community
Church.
Fearrien worked as a RN at the hospital in John Day,
Cascade Medical Clinic, Pioneer Memorial Hospital and
Redmond Hospital. Her hobbies included horses, sewing,
painting, gardening, canned rawhide, knitting, quilting,
crocheting, cooking, square dancing, clogging, softball,
baking, ranching, hunting, camping and picking berries.
She was also a Pioneer Queen in Prineville, and she and
Don were married for 63 years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Fearrien; son
Newton Fearrien; special friend Cindy; sister Betty Jo
Norton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two
brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles
Hospice in Prineville.
A girl, Everleigh Ann Schmade-
ka, 8 lbs., 5 oz., 21 inches in length,
was born to parents, Taylor and Tiffnie
Schmadeka of Dayville at 8:25 a.m.
Feb. 22 at Blue Mountain Hospital in
John Day. Everleigh joins 2-year-old
sibling, Grayson. Grandparents are
Jeff and Babette Larson, Dayville,
George and Betty Ashley, Wamic, John
Schmadeka, Grangeville, Idaho, and
Jan Wagner, Portland. Great-grandpar-
ents are Bob and Lynne Wagner, Canyon City, Buck and Kari
Coe, Madras, and Joe Larson, Dayville.

Jeff and Christy Keffer of Bates are
pleased to announce the engagement
of their daughter Meaghan L. Keffer to
Travis M. Jones, son of Mike and Pat
Jones of Purdy, Virginia. The groom-
to-be graduated in 2006 from Greens-
ville County High School and from
Virginia Tech in 2010 with a Bachelor
of Science in fi shery science and a mi-
nor in forestry. He now works for the
Oregon Department of Fish and Wild-
life. The bride-to-be graduated from Prairie City High School
in 2007 and Eastern Oregon University in 2015 with a Bachelor
of Science in liberal studies and minors in anthropology, sociol-
ogy and the arts. She now works for the United States Postal
Service. They are planning an October wedding in Oregon and
a blessing and reception in Virginia later that month.
