JOHN DAY — On Feb.
6, we had approximately 28
diners in to enjoy broccoli
cheddar soup, turkey stuffed
peppers, steak fries and bis-
cuits, and for dessert, Lisa
fixed strawberry shortcake.
Greeting us at the front
desk were Ron Dowse and
Bonnie Kocis.
Isa Larkin and Joyce
Nodine, representing Blue
Mountain Hospital Auxilia-
ry, delivered 37 meals with
66 frozen meals going out to
shut-ins. They were also our
servers. Marcus Perkins and
Billie Scott Howland took the
Mt. Vernon route for Veanne.
Isa led the flag salute, and
Dale Stinnett asked the bless-
ing.
Veanne announced that
our refrigerator has died. If
you have one you could do-
nate, it would be greatly ap-
preciated. She also needs pot-
ty chairs and bath benches for
the handicapped. Be cautious
for falling rocks and high
water. Thank you to Danny
Dupriest and Linda Stoltz for
cleaning out the storage shed.
She also welcomed me back.
I have been laid up for over
a month, so I want to thank
Veanne for doing the news
for me.
Don Porter won the Len’s
Drug gift card, and Roberta
Dowse won the meal for two
at Valley View.
On Feb. 9, we had our
Valentine’s dinner consisting
of chicken cordon bleu, rice
pilaf, peas and carrots and
dinner rolls, and for dessert,
we had black forest cake.
The entree was furnished
by Bank of Eastern Oregon.
There were approximately 48
diners present, and 57 meals
were delivered out. Brenda
Tarmasso and her daugh-
ter delivered the John Day
and Canyon City area. Mar-
cus Perkins and Billie Scott
Howland from Step Forward
did the Mt. Vernon route.
Our servers were from
Cornerstone Christian Fel-
lowship. They were Pastor
Levi Manitsas, Zola Pike,
Andy and Carla Anderson,
Donna Johnson, Donna
Mulder and Linda Sprouff-
ske. Zola led the flag salute,
and Pastor Levi asked the
blessing.
Veanne sent out a huge
thank to Craig and Donna
Palmer of the OK Garage
in Long Creek and the Peo-
ple Mover for their help
in getting frozen meals to
shut-ins in Long Creek. Six-
ty-six meals went out this
week.
Valentine’s Day prizes
went David Pasko, Donna
Mulder, myself, Judy Nelson,
Helen Bogart and Balbina Es-
cudero, Connie Perry, Donna
Johnson and Don Porter.
Bonnie Kocis won the
Chester’s Thriftway gift card,
and Linda Spouffske won
lunch for two at Valley View.
On Feb.16, we will be
having pork chops mozarel-
la with fruit salad. Monday,
Feb. 20, it will be navy beans
and ham served with home-
made bread.
The board of directors
held a meeting following
lunch. The minutes of the
meeting will be posted on the
bulletin board.

chariots and some in horses
but we trust in the name of
the Lord our God.”

MONUMENT — The
snow is melting! Oh, hap-
py day! The winter is final-
ly making its way out and
soon we will be in spring
bliss. This has been the lon-
gest winter by far for us, and
it seems the same for many
others who’ve lived here for
a long time. Hopefully, the
ground is saturated with lots
of moisture so that we won’t
have a serious fire season in
the summer. God is good, all
the time.
We had a wonderful meal
prepared for us by Terry
Cade and Carrie Jewell, and
many thanks to them. On the
menu were hamburgers with
all the fixings, french fries,
macaroni salad and chocolate
chip cookies for dessert.
Our greeters were Bob
Blakeslee, Jimmy Cole and
Marva Walker. Bob led us
in the flag salute. Marva
made the announcements,
and yours truly prayed the
blessing over our meal. Den-
nis Abraham won the Len’s
Drug gift card. Jan Ensign
and yours truly won the free
meals for two at Valley View.
The foot clinic will be
open at the senior center on
Feb. 21. So if you need your
feet massaged and little toes
fixed up, there are sign-ups
being taken.
Remember that the People
Mover van is always avail-
able to drive people to John
Day on Thursdays. They
leave around 9 a.m. and re-
turn home to Monument
around 3 p.m.
Another reminder for you
is that we will have another
sewing class at the end of the
month on Feb. 25. Hope you
can make it for a fun time of
fellowship with ladies who
have a similar passion for
sewing and sharing a potluck
meal. It will be from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at the Monument
Senior Center.
The nights have been still
on the cold side, but during
the day, we’ve had sever-
al days of wonderful sun-
ny warmth. It feels good to
have the sunlight shining in
through the windows. Our
cats are enjoying the sun too.
I see them on top of our cars
sunning themselves. They es-
pecially like the sunroof on
my van that gets really nice
and toasty.
I’m wondering when I
should start my seeds this
year for my garden. I am
going to try and get a head
start, unlike last year. I
learned something new that
I am going to try to imple-
ment. I am going to plant
new green bean seeds every
three weeks for a continuous
harvest all throughout the
growing season and maybe
a little further into the late
fall.
We so enjoyed our ap-
plesauce I canned last year,
I’m going to try to can much
more this year. Oh, my mind
is racing just thinking of all
the projects to do this sum-
mer. I can never sit still for
very long; I have too many
things to do. The projects and
possibilities are endless and
so little time. Can you tell
I’m getting antsy and chomp-
ing at the bit?

theless the foundation of God
standeth sure, having this

PRAIRIE CITY — That
was some Super Bowl game,
wasn’t it? I was rooting for
the Patriots due to the age of
the quarterback. And I was re-
warded along with a whole lot
of other people. It was entire-
ly fitting that the game would
turn out that way, given the
other crazy, weird and strange
things that have happened this
past year.
So on to new things. Since
I got the latch hook done, I
have been working on the
needlepoint eclipse project.
As Taci said, “There are only
192 days to go.” And since
I don’t have to be Derrol’s
’round-the-clock caregiver
now, I can get back to reading
some of the interesting books
I have picked up at various
yard sales, etc., through the
years. I am always surprised
when I look through the book-
shelves and discover one I
hadn’t got around to reading.
Ah. Yes. Curl up in the reclin-
er and forget about the snow
and ice outside.
We had 60 names on the
book. Had one table that was
full of Bruce’s new neigh-
bors, and they were having a
high-ol’ time during the meal.
Good to hear laughter.
Since Harold was gone,
I got to do the announcing.
Buzz led the flag salute, and
Tom Roark asked the bless-
ing. Harold and Bruce did
the setup; Larry, Buzz, Ken
and Carlos did the deliveries.
Gary and Marlene dispensed
the juice and milk. And the
winner of the $5 in trade do-
nated by Prairie Hardware &
Gifts was me. We will have
our Valentine’s dinner on Feb.
15, so be sure to come.
The meal included grape
juice, green salad, chicken
pot pie and snicker doodle
cheesecake bars for dessert.
Another one of those “I ate
too much, but it was so good”
meals.
Thanks to Iva, Tom and all
their helpers in the kitchen for
these wonderful repasts. It’s fun
to come and find out what de-
lightful food is on the menu for
the current meal.
The site committee held
their meetings after the meal
today. (Just thought I’d put
that in so you would know we
are still conducting business
correctly.)
Lorna and Krystin brought
Dortohy Blasing, Lois Hill,
Marilyn Randall and Otho Lau-
rance from the Blue Mountain
Care Center. And they came
prepared with an umbrella, too.
Derrol and I made the last of
our medical rounds with visits
to the optometrist and the den-
tist. All in good shape. Whew.
That was good to hear after the
last six months of “surprises.”
Now if I can get rid of the virus
that’s stuck in my throat, I’ll re-
ally be happy!
How about some presiden-
tial trivia: After Americans
set up the office of the presi-
dent in the Constitution, they
argued over what to call the
president. Some suggestions
were “His Highness,” “His
Most Benign Highness” and
“His Mightiness.” Finally
just “President of the United
States” was settled on. Now
it’s shortened to POTUS.
(President = administrator.)
I Peter 4:10 “Each one
should use whatever gift he
has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God’s
grace in its various forms.”
