JOHN DAY — On Dec.
29 we had approximately 56
diners in for lunch. It was a
great winter lunch of beef pot
roast with potatoes, carrots,
gravy, biscuits, crab-stuffed
mushrooms and, for des-
sert, chocolate peanut butter
mousse. Besides the usual
drink we had virgin faux mi-
mosas.
Virginia Miller and Mary
Lou Horton delivered 37
meals. Tootie Cernazanu fur-
nished the entree in loving
memory of her late husband,
Jim.
Ron Dowse and Tracy An-
drew greeted us at the front
desk today. Karen Bailey led
the flag salute, and Dale Stin-
nett asked the blessing. Our
servers were Virginia, Mary
Lou, Karen and Kris Labhart
representing the Blue Moun-
tain Hospital Auxiliary.
Veanne announced the
New Year’s Eve party at the
Elks Lodge Saturday night
and the party at the First
Christian Church starting at
10 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
Veanne’s birthday is New
Year’s Day. We got a thank
you letter from Grant Union
staff and students for wel-
coming the Regional Job
Club a couple weeks ago.
Buzz Harris had a group
of his family members with
him from Caldwell, Idaho.
Angela Binchus won the
Chester’s Thriftway gift card,
and Betty Conner won the
Valley View lunch for two.
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is
my light and my salvation.”

MONUMENT — Hope
everyone is having a great start
into the New Year. Here in
Monument, we’ve been hav-
ing a dandy of a time with lots
of snow. Here at our place,
I’m sure we have almost 3
feet of snow on the ground in
some places if not more.
I walked in one of our
small fields and the snow
came above my knees, and
that was before we had an-
other good 6 inches of snow.
We’ve only got one vehicle
running because it’s the only
one with four-wheel drive.
It’s just as well; the road con-
ditions have been downright
dangerous and deadly. I think
eomediagroup.com
there have been at least nine
deaths so far because of the
hazardous road conditions. I
urge people to be very care-
ful out there if you think you
have to drive.
Most of all, I encourage
everyone to just give yourself
a little extra time and slow
down.
Our last meal for Decem-
ber was cooked by Carrie
Jewell and Mary Cade (Ter-
ri Cade’s daughter, because
Terry was sick. Hope you
feel better now, Terri!). The
ladies made us tater tot casse-
role, served with green beans,
cheese bread and a variety of
desserts. We thank and bless
them for their hard work. We
had Bob Blakeslee and Marva
Walker as our greeters.
Bob led the flag salute,
Marva made the announce-
ments and yours truly prayed
the blessing over our meal.
Linda Abraham and Jess
Hoodenpyl both won free
meals and Diane Ganger won
a Len’s Drug gift card. We had
38 guests on our books and one
takeout. Please keep Ron
Odette of Long Creek, who
joins us for senior lunch, in
your thoughts and prayers.
He is in Belfair, Washington,
awaiting surgery on the Jan.
12.
There are many in our
community who are suffering
with illnesses presently, and
I ask that we pray together,
to stand in the gap and inter-
cede for them to be healed
and strengthened. If you have
a prayer need, please let me
know; I would love to pray for
you!
There will be a sewing
class for the ladies on Jan. 14.
The class will be from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. We bring a potluck
dish to share and we chat, we
laugh, we eat and, of course,
we sew! Hope you can join us,
and as a reminder, it’s free.
Since I’ve had so much
time on my hands being stuck
indoors and at home, I’ve been
looking at some recipes on the
internet. There is site called
Pinterest, and you basically
are able to bookmark sites and
organize and categorize your
interests and information.
I was drooling over some
bread recipes. I have yet to
bake any bread. I want to try
and bake some artisan bread,
honey wheat bread and bri-
oche bread. I’ll let you know
how they turn out — if I get
to it. Ha. Yup, Pinterest is
pretty neat, but to put it plain-
ly, it’s electronic hoarding at
your fingertips (laughing out
loud).
Psalm 35:9 “And my soul
shall be joyful in the LORD:
It shall rejoice in his salva-
tion.”

PRAIRIE CITY — Hope
you had a Merry Christmas,
and hope you will have
Happy New Year.
Our last meal of the year
was a refreshing pause be-
tween those two dates of
note.
Iva and Tom prepared
a simple vegetable soup,
bread sticks, cottage cheese
and a cinnamon roll for des-
sert. Del and Bonnie Lake
brought some finger food
that was enjoyed by those
present in the hall.
There were 48 names on
the book.
Buzz led the flag salute,
and Tom asked the blessing.
I found four people who ad-
mitted to having a birthday
in December.
Jimmy drew out the
number belonging to our
chairman Harold Preston.
His birthday is actually
on Christmas. He received
the $10 certificate donated
by Huffman’s Market.
Carla Wright was the
winner of the $5 in trade
donated by Prairie Hard-
ware & Gifts. And we
want to publicly thank
our merchants who donate
these door prizes every
week. They are much en-
joyed by all who received
them.
Lorna
and
Krystin
brought Dorothy Blasing,
Lois Hill, Marilyn Randall
and Otho Laurance from the
Blue Mountain Care Center.
Iva’s grandson Zach and his
friend Portia helped serve
them their lunch.
Our sons and their fam-
ilies all were able to get to
Prairie City safely to spend
the weekend with us. And
they returned home safely
on Monday.
Then we rested.
Derrol is doing well now
after all the complications
of the last three months.
He is able to take a
shower all by himself with
no neck brace or other ap-
paratus attached to his
body.
Whew. Even got his driv-
er’s license renewed with
no problem. PTL. It amazes
me that I am able to drive
to Bend and back and not go
to sleep.
The Lord gives grace
when needed, right? Just
don’t ask me to drive in
Portland or Boise! Those
days are gone!
So now on to next year.
More music arranging for
the ensemble for the Easter
Sunday service.
And don’t forget the
eclipse. Almost got one
project done for that. How
are you doing?
Remember, you can
make some money from this
event.
If you need more infor-
mation contact your city
hall. They will point you in
the right direction. See you
next year.
2 Peter 3: 8-9 “But do
not forget this one thing,
dear friend: With the
Lord a day is like a thou-
sand years, and a thou-
sand years are like a day.
The Lord is not slow in
keeping his promise, as
some understand slowness.
He is patient with you, not
wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to re-
pentance.”
